Mistake on my speeding ticket in California?
Hi guys, I got a speeding ticket back in December for going 85 on a 65. Anyway, my court date was set for February 10th. The ticket told me to show up at the Superior Court even though I turn 18 March 2nd. I showed up and they told me to show up at the Juvenile Court but I had to go to work so I forgot about it. Anyway, the clerk at the Superior Court told me that the officer made a mistake by writing superior court instead of juvenile court on my ticket even though I am not 18 yet by the Court date. Any suggestions on what I should do?
thanks!
I'm not trying to get out of the ticket, I missed my court date because of this mistake and now I'm fearing a failure to appear because of a mistake I didn't do.

If you are under 18 when an offense occurs, then it is handled in juvenile court even if you turn 18 before the hearing. The juvenile court is PART of the superior court. I don’t know why you say that you did not make a mistake. "they told me to show up at the Juvenile Court but I had to go to work so I forgot about it." That is your mistake.
It is very likely that a warrant has been or soon will be issued for your arrest. You want to get back to the right court ASAP and take care of this.

Yes, go to court and pay it off. A typo does not get you out of a ticket.
You can go to traffic school so it won’t be on your record that is your only option.

Ask an attorney.
The cost of a conviction for going 85 ( reckless driving probably) will include: the fine, court costs, a whopping insurance premium increase which will last for 3-5 years, and, perhaps suspension of your license.
It is worth the cost to have an attorney steer you through this matter.
He might just get the matter dismissed.

Your best bet is to contact the courts and ask them these questions. They are the ones who will process your ticket and will know all the laws and regulation. You should also ask the courts if you are allowed to take a driving school class. This will prevent your insurance from going up and points put on your license. Just make sure you get the courts permission before doing so. If you don’t the courts will reject your driving school certificate. Good luck!
