Michigan Speeding Ticket Archives

I am 18 and i had a clean driving record. Until one day a bratty cop decided to park in the library in an undercover cop car. He pulled me over for going 35 through the village of hartland and its 25. What makes it worse is that it was only 25 for maybe 100 ft. I told him that i wasn’t driving my own car and wasn’t use to the pull of the car. I didn’t cry either. I was really mature about it and he still gave me the ticket. It only took him three minutes to write me the ticket too. SInce when does it take 3 minutes. I was on my way to school. All of my friends get warnings. My shady ex boyfriend gets warnings. I cant afford two points on my license. I tried fighting the ticket by saying i was guilty with explanation. Still didn’t work. No mercy. I just want the points off. and tell me what you think about the situation too.
by the way don’t speed. because in michigan cops just write you a ticket for anything.
It was a livingston county sheriff .
they should make a commercial like they did for the "click it or ticket no matter what"
If your speeding your getting a ticket.

I just got a speeding ticket this morning in Michigan, and I live in Ohio. The delema I have is that I know no one can afford a speeding ticket, but I’m debating if it’s worth fighting it. The officer said he clocked me doing 70 mph in a 55, my problem beliveing this is that when I looked down my speed-o was reading 50. This is because he clocked me on a curve on a road… I was driving a truck loaded full of items and the curve had to be at least over a 45degree turn. I find it hard to belive I was doing 70 over it with out loosing any cargo. Then the officer wrote on the ticket for my violation that it was 65 mph in a 55, and in the remarkes section wrote clocked at 70 mph.. isn’t that alil fishy? He took my License in Lieu of bond, and wrote no cost of the ticket on the paper itself. So I must travel to the court anyways. Would it be in my intrest to try to fight this, and I also have a witness that was my girlfriend.

in the state of michigan. and was just trying to get to the next exit to re leave myself.

I got a speeding ticket in Michigan going 17 over. I was trying to get to my house before curfew and i swear the speed limit was 45. Well i was going about 51-52 and the cop pulled me over because it was a 35 zone. He wrote me a ticket for 5 over and now i am going to pay, not fight it. Will they care about what he wrote me for or will they base it on what I was really going? I finally told my mom and she said that they look at both. Ugh i don’t know if she’s right… help me!!!

This is my first ticket

Ok heres whats going on. I already have 4 points on my driving record from 1 and 1/2 years ago. Monday evening I got a speeding ticket and with me wanting to get a job as an EMT I cannot have another 2 points on my license. I am planning on going to court and asking if I could pay the ticket and take a drivers improvment class instead of the two points being put on my licnse. How or which way should I ask the judge this and do you think he or she will do this(allowing me to pay the ticket and take a drivers improvment class instead of getting two points)? By the way I live in Michigan if anyone was going to ask. If I did take the driver improvment class will they drop the ticket or points??

I do not have a CDL. I am a lifelong Michigan residient who was driving out of state. Both tickets were paid on time (one of them right on the roadside) and my Michigan driving record has been clean for a number of years now. Just wondering if there will be any further penalties beyond the ticket fines (them Minnesota boys sure are greedy).

I recently got an advisory letter from the Illinois SOS about two recent speeding tickets on my license. I received both tickets in Michigan but live in Illinois. I read that there is an agreement between most states called the Interstate Driver License Compact where they will share information regarding certain types of traffic convictions, and reports on traffic violations and suspensions are forwarded to the home state of the nonresident. However I also read that that Michigan does not participate in this agreement. So how/why did my Michigan tickets end up on my driving record if there is no exchange of information between Michigan and Illinois?

Supposedly speeding tickets only stay on your record for 2 years in michigan (where i live) I have one in march or may of 04 one in july of 05 and one in oct. 07. Two of them were only 2 pts and the one was for 4pts. Does anyone know when they start suspending licenses/ calling you in for driver re examination? Michigan police officer answers helpful!!!!

Please dont tell me I need to slow down. Yes I know that. I always seem to be the one they pick out of the crowd of us.

I know I shouldn’t have been speeding. It was on the freeway, nobody around (or so I thought) at 2:09 AM, and I was going 74 in a 60 construction zone. My GPS still read 70. Is this arguable in court? Do I have a chance, or do you think I really will get the big fine? :(
The construction zone didn’t have workers present, or even trucks present. The road was actually fine except for a row of barrels (not lit up) on the side of the road.

i received one speeding ticket in IL and two speeding tickets in Michigan in the past 5 months. does that mean my license will get suspended?

My wifes coworker recently got pulled over for speeding(90 in a 70) in a small town in michigan and the officer took her drivers license and told her she’d get it back when she paid the fine. I’ve never heard about police confiscating drivers licenses for speeding tickets before. She’s really naive and trusting of people so she just handed it over without a second thought.
She doesn’t have any unpaid tickets and hasn’t gotten a speeding ticket or other violations for well over a year.

I received a speeding ticket and the when the officer noted my vehicle info she actually listed the wrong state that the plate was issued from.
Example being: My car is registered in Michigan with Michigan plates and the officer notes on the ticket I have Ohio Plates.

Would a factual error such as that be cause for dismissal?

I am 17 and need help i recieved a speeding ticket in Lucas County Ohio but i live in Erie Michigan can any one tell what i can do to not need to go to court and i can just mail the ticket in to get paid? Also what happens now that i have this stupid ticket on my license?

I was speeding in New York (76 in a 55mph zone). I got the ticket for 21 over. It cost me 0. I should have fought it, but I didn’t. I recently recieved a letter from the NY DMV saying I now have 6 points on my license! Once you get six points on your New York license, you have to pay 0. These are my main questions: 1) the same violation in Michigan is only worth 4 points. So do the NY 6 points or the MI 4 points go on my record? (i am a resident of Michigan and have a Michigan license) 2) since I don’t have a NY license do I even have to bother paying the 0? the letter says my NY State license will be suspended if I don’t pay. but, should i care?

it would be great if anyone knew the answers to this or even where I can start looking to find the answers.

thanks.

I got a speeding ticket in michigan on the 169 for doing 84-70 then it got dropped to a 75 in a 70..im super poor and cant afford to pay it what will happen if i dont pay it…will it effect my license or when i try and cross the border??? someone let me know thanks so much

I have had numerous traffic tickets in my lifetime, but have fought every single one of them to get ammended down to impeding traffic (which is 0 points, but a hefty fine) and have succeeded. I have 0 points on my license. On my record does it still show that I have recieved tickets before, or is it completely clear with no remarks at all whatsoever?

I have a speeding ticket for five over in Michigan.
Will I get points put on my license because of only 5 over? Someone told me you don’t get points for five over.
Thanks!

Tonight a friend of mine got pulled over for going down a one-way street. The street was clearly labeled with "DO NOT ENTER" signs. The cop gave him a reckless driving ticket but did not indicate anything about speeding. Also, he cut through a parking lot to avoid a light prior to going down the one-way street. In Michigan, the offense is worth six points. He has zero points on his record but a prior five-over speeding ticket.

Any advice on how to go about dealing with this? Any guesses as to the repercussions?

Thanks.

I got pulled over the other day and I’m going to court. I need some advise. I have only been pulled over one other time my entire life and that was about 6 or 7 years ago. He said, quote, "by my guess you were going 55" I honeslty think I was doing no more than 45mph in a 40. I was at a stop behind a bus at a red light and made a left turn when it turned green. The bus was going 30mph, so I went around it and was doing btwn 40 and 45. The cop said because of the way I "pulled ahead" he thought I was doing more. (was he only "guessing" and how can I tell if he used a radar?) I have a clean record, and so he gave me impeding traffic with no points. Do I have a chance to have my ticket waived or the fine reduced? Please help :-(
Oh and my proof of ins. was expired by a couple days (didnt come in the mail on time) I had them fax me a copy and took it to the station the same day, so that it reduced to . the other fine is 0
the cop also said that if I make a court date he will go and waive it, is that possible

I got the speeding ticket today on my way back home on freeway. I tried to take over the police officer and I accilerated my car to 80 mph. He than pulled me over and gave me 75 mph (5 above the limit) ticket. He said the ticket adds no points on my record but I have to pay 120 $ fine. I basically have 2 question on this incident.

Question 1: He pulled me over when I was 100 mile away from my home in the same state. So the court I have to contact is 100 miles away from my home. I wish to go to court and fight the ticket. Can I go to my local court to fight the case and not go 100 miles?

Question 2: Should I even bother to go to court? Should I just pay the fine? I did tell him that I was going 75 mph when he pulled me over. Would he have video recording of that? And if I do go to court what should I say to get out of this safely?

Thank you all for taking time to answer this, I am anxiously waiting for replies and ideas.
