i have court tom and i was given a careless operations ticket instead "no points" what should i do/say when i go to court?

I got a speeding ticket on Route 13 Highway going 53 mph in 35 mph in Delaware. I really need to get the most lenient punishment possible as possible since this will effect my consideration for a job I am trying to obtain. I spoke to a lawyer and he said that he can get me no points, however, in NJ, when I had last gotten a ticket, I never had to go see a lawyer, I just would speak with the prosecutor or officer myself. Do you think I should get a lawyer? or Just go to court on my own and speak to the prosecutor or officer on my own. Thanks. Also, what is the difference between Justice of Peace court and Common Pleas, I received this email from the court but do not understand. Which do you think is better to go to? Please do help!!:

If you elect to go to the Justice of the Peace Court, the officer would prosecute the case.

If you elect to go to the Court of Common Pleas, the Attorney General would prosecute the case.

yesturday i got a speeding ticket i was doing 90 mph in a 55mph zone the cop also gave me a careless driving ticket. i had heard that it u are doin 25 or more over the speed limit u get ur license suspended……i live in NJ……is it true?
this sucks im only 19 and i need my license because of my job if i go to court do u think that they may take the points off and just get a fine?
a BIG fine??

Need some legal advice here…

I am a resident of New Jersey, but was given a ticket for speeding this weekend while driving through Pennsylvania. I was told that I was going 88 in a 65mph zone (which to be honest was probably accurate), but the cop said he was letting me off easy b/c he technically could have taken away my license and given me a 0 fine since it was in a construction zone (I guess b/c there were some traffic cones on the side of the road or something). So I ended up with a 1.50 ticket.

How does this work….. If I want to fight the ticket, would I have to go to a court in Pennsylvania? Because I really don’t think I can afford to do that since its so far away from my home in NJ. And what would be my chances of actually getting a dismissal/the charges lowered?

Any help would be really appreciated.. this is my first ticket ever and it sucks =(

The date of offence is 10/06/07 on the ticket but then at the section where the officer signed on the ticket has the date of 10/17/07

the ticket was issued in NJ for speeding

I know if this is a parking ticket in NYC, it will be discarded.
should I call the municipality to find out? is that a wise move? If I disputed that I might have to go to court which is about 50 miles away from my home

recently, got a 5 point speeding ticket in nj, wondering if they are re-evaluating now it will take another year for them to see it.
maybe jersey points are different, but this is just a speeding ticket. 95 in a 65, though…

on a road where the average speed is a solid 85.
i got a 2 point careless driving and 5 point speeding.. but i have not pleaded guilty yet, and am hoping for sum type of plea bargain.

regardless, i have thoroughly learned my lesson, and will be following all posted speed limits aggressively.

I got a speeding ticket for doing 55 in a 35 zone. I am not from the area and there was no speed limit sign. As far as I could tell I was on an entrance ramp to a highway but the ticket says "access road". It was a 2 lane road with shoulders only merges onto the highway and nothing else on the road (it’s the tangle of highways and roads around Newark Airport in NJ).

Is that a valid ticket? Can I fight it? Without any signs and a road that looks like a regular highway ramp how is someone to know?
A question was asked as to what was the speed of the road I was coming off. I entered the entrance ramp from a stop light on a city street. The highway speed limit is 55 posted just past the merge.

To the person who said there is no prosecutor, you are wrong. I understand from others that in NJ there are prosecutors and you can ask to talk to them and agree to pay a fine instead of points. I do not believe there is traffic school in NJ

My real question though is how can this be fair? Even on maps and GPSs its shown as a "ramp" What classifies the road as an access road or a highway ramp? The road is one way, 2 lanes wide maybe a half mile long and only leads to the highway with no access to anything else.

I say yes, I’m sure he would never tell his troopers to back off giving a set of tickets to the little people. He was sure in a helluva hurry to get to that Imus confab and make some political hay. Idiot.

I got a speeding ticket for doing 46 In a 35 mph zone and the officer told me that if I go to court then they will drop everything. So when I go to court what do I tell the judge? Do I say what the officer told me or do I have to defend myself?

Also one more thing… The ticket doesn’t tell me how much the fine is sodoes anyone k ow how muchit is for doing 11mph over the speed limit? I live in NJ. Thanks

I got a tixs for speeding and reckless driving (at the same time). And if my rates go up, is there a way I can get the chrages reduced to careless driving? How would I go about doing that sort of thing? Any info on this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hello!
Please only answer if you know this!

I am a NJ driver and got a speeding ticket in NY 28 MPH over the limit.
It was a rental car that was on my Mom’s name…Mom was not with me…I dont know why the Police Officer Noticed it..but anyhow, NY state gave me 6 points..and I paid all the fines….

The questions are:
1. How many points will transfer to NJ (my home town)
2. What will happen to insurance…as it was a rental car on mom’s name >> ticket was issued on my License >> and I personally do not have any insurance on any car….

I am so confused….anybody??
Please help….
Thanks Geogia Peach, Trooper And SPF….I really appricate ur answers….

Trooper…I am not on my mom’s policy….So what is going to happen? She just rented the car, that I was driving. How would the insurance affect if I am not on her policy and ticket was even not on her License..?….

and SPF…you know…it was 4th July….and Police officer said….she wont arrest me for driving the Mom’s rented car….so there should be no arguements…as the Officer let me go…right?….

I’m 28 years old, I have a perfect driving record and don’t want this to raise my premium or add points to my NJ license.

Should I bother hiring a North Carolina Lawyer to go fight for a non-point ticket? BTW: the current ticket only shows it being 0 in total fines…

Ok, so I just received a no turn on red ticket in NJ. Here is the situation, I’ve already used the pay for no points twice, once on a failure to stop at a stop sign and another on a speeding ticket. I swear I did not see the sign and i explained to the officer that i was following my mom trying to get to a place that i have not been before in the town. What are my options? I cannot get these points, I’ve heard things from Driving school to pay the larger fine. The last time i went to court they said i would be in danger of getting 4 points on my license if this happened again. Can anyone help??
Do they add the 0 to the price of the ticket or you just pay 0 plus the cost of the fee’s?

my mom just got a speeding ticket on 287 Mahwah NJ. it says 76 on a 55 zone. but we know it’s a 65 zone.

the court appearance box wasnt checked but next to it were the NOV 20. does that mean she has to go to court that date? If yes, can she go to court in where she lives instead of Mahwah?

and is there anyway to talk out of this? c’mon it’s just 76 on 287! she says the cop didnt listen to her explanation. he just didnt care.

if not, can she pay more so she has no points?

she’s been driving clean for more than 3 years.

NJ

I recieved a speeding ticket for inadvertantly going 43mph in a 25mph zone. The flow of traffic was similar and I was simply attempting to pass the adjacent car in order to go on my right lane and turn at the upcoming light.

I drive through the area daily and knew that my usual route was detoured due to construction. I took a different route (Broadway) and ended up getting stopped 1/2 a block from my destination.

The officer has written "780 Broadway" and I had NOT driven through that area. In fact, I had turned onto Broadway in the 730-740 area and was stopped around 575-585 Broadway. 4 Blocks away from where i had turned, and 5 blocks away from "the location of the offense"

Would I be able to dispute this fact in court?

I had been stupid , driving at 95 on a 65 MPH zone in Maryland and had been ticketed to the extend of 5 points. I haven’t paid the fine yet nor had been given a court appearence date. What would be the best course of action now ? If I go ahead and pay the fine, how many points would be reflected on my NJ license ? Could someone please suggest.

Thanks in advance

I just want to know if the insurance / dmv points will transfer if i got pulled over in Texas but my license is NJ ? I’m willing to pay for the ticket… but im more worried about the insurance points… so will it transfer or not ?

I got a speeding ticket in NY – I’m a NJ licensed driver – I do not want any points because I just found out that out-of-state tickets get 2 points on my license. What should I do? Can I just show up to the court date and ask the judge to give me other tickets/fines that are non-moving violations in order to save me from the points or is it best if I let a lawyer take care of it for me? By the way, I was going 86 in a 65.
I’ve already taken a safety class for when I orginally got my license which was in April 2005. There was a classroom session, and I drove with an instructor for 6 hours – or something around that.
Let me also add the fact that I was in upstate New York, I-90, and there was ZERO cars next to me within hundreds and hundreds of yards.

I got a speeding ticket in NJ for going 17 miles over the limit. My NJ friends are giving me mixed answers-some say it doesn’t matter, others are telling me I’ll end up with 4 points on my license. I read somewhere that minor violations, such as speeding, are required to be reported but will not effect insurance or my PA license etc… I don’t know what or who to believe, so I need an answer from someone with actual legal knowledge.

ok i was doing 88mph in a 55mph. i know im an idiot. what can happen to me? o this happend in NJ.

I’m 19 years old, have been driving since I was 17. I got pulled over for the first time yesterday for speeding, 96 mph in a 65 mph zone. I have never been pulled over for anything before, and was only given a ticket for the speeding. How much is the fine for the ticket?

I got a speeding ticket in Woodbridge, NJ for doing 52mps in 25mph zone. Cop tells me I was doing 52 and can step out of the car and check his radar. I did. I saw "50". He said It’s 50+2, total 52. He didn’t explain what that meant. I did not wanted to argue with him. It’s 4-point ticket and so I got the court date for dec. 14. What do I tell the judge or prosecutor? Please help! I’m really fed-up.

Thanks!
