First Speeding Ticket ? Can I pay them off ?

Well I just got pulled over 15 min ago speeding in a 35 mph I was going 49 mph I had a radar which did go off the wall but I was so in to my music, I did admit to the cop that I knew I was speeding. And this is my first ticket in the 2 years I was driving. I drive a mazda speed 6, So I love zzom zoom around (racing) :)

My question is my ticket can I pay and they can take that in donation. Reason why is beacuse I heard from friends they paid extra and the ticket wont show on insurance or it wont show as speeding ?

just wondering if anybody did that ?

  1. The procedure you are talking about is a myth.

They claim you write a check for over the amount, and when the court sends you a check back for the overpayment, you never cash it. The idea is as long as the check isn’t cashed, the case stays open and no conviction is entered. This is not true.

As soon as your court date passes, they enter a default judgment of guilty.

It will throw their books off, but will have no effect on your ticket.

  2. I don’t know about that "donation" – sounds a little shady, but if this is your first ticket you can easily get out of it by simply going to court and asking the judge to have it dropped on account of a good driving record. Everybody gets a freebie for their first ticket if they’re not too lazy to go to court for it. It’s standard practice.

  3. In California you can pay the first ticket, go to traffic school and it will NOT go on your record. I have heard about the "pay extra" thing. But I heard that you will get a refund check and if you don’t cash it they don’t put it on your record. BUT… I think the best thing for you to do is to do the right thing and pay the ticket. Do school and be done with it. You don’t want this to sneak back up on you in the long run!
