  1. Popped first time at 17: congratulations–be assured the judge will make your first time a memorable experience. You’re amazingly comfortable about facing what’s ahead; I admire the Zen attitude you got going. Here’s what you can expect ( actual fees vary by state ):

Traffic fines, court fees and impound costs: $2,184.

Traffic school fee: $ 300–must pass to regain your suspended license.

106 in a 70 mph zone, eh? Gee, must be driving a Mustang or Porsche–sweet!! Given your insurance was high BEFORE the speeding ticket–brace up cuz it’s going to go HIGHER. Ouch!

Do yourself a grand favor: Don’t repeat this type of mistake; you DON’T want to make new furry friends in county jail.

The look on your face after your wallet has been raped: Priceless.

    Merry Christmas, dude!

  2. In California, 106 is not only reckless driving but a misdemeanor, punishable by jail time. Anything over 100 is a major traffic offense.

  3. Dude, Your need a Lawyer and ALOTA money!

  4. You’ll probaly end up losing your license for awhile…because you were doing 36 over the speed limit..You’ll also probably have to pay a hefty fine and possible go to a driving class of some sort

  5. Hehe….be glad you aren’t in Oregon…speeding tickets there start at $350 and go up…and more than 30 mph over the limit is considered an ‘aggravated’ offense which is much, much more.

    Good luck guy.

  6. You will lose your license for a while.

    Hopefully

  7. Anytime you exceed 100 mph it is considered reckless driving. You’re looking at $1,000 just for being over 100 mph plus major fines for being more than 20 mph over the speed limit. You could get your license suspended until you’re 21. Hope and pray the judge doesn’t throw the book at you.

  8. yea in florida you would be so skewed it would be considered wreckless driving…what did the cop that pulled you over say he would have told you if you needed a lawyer…how much was your ticket there is no way you could have gotten outta that

  9. ok dude I might be able to help you. now I live in Texas so it might be a little different. Somewhere on the ticket, maybe on the back there should be a little check box saying you want a jury trial for your ticket, check the box or mark it somehow to say thats what you want. Find a lawyer that does tickets and give it to them. Most officers( considering they are not dicks) will not want a jury trial based on a ticket and most courthouses are way to busy and will keep knocking your trial back until it is dismissed, not to mention what the lawyer will do to keep it from going on record. It may cost you anywhere from $100-150 but it will keep it completely off your record. Also ask about deferred adjudication, which basically means you could go through some drivers ed type stuff and as long as you dont get pulled over for 6 months itwill not go on your insurance. But for serious, talk to a lawyer who specializes in getting rid of traffic tickets, which should be easy considering its your first.

  10. Dude slow down! 106?!?! if you hit someone there will be death involved, probably for everyone.

Good you didn’t get a reckless because that is as bad as a DUI.
If I were you I would look to pay the fine and keep this out of court because the judge can bump it to reckless driving, if you are in city it’s a crap shoot as to what the city judge will do. County is a bit different.

  11. Okay, based on a reading of TN law. One, you will be looking at a hefty fine. Given your age and driving record, I’d be very surprised if you could get it pled down any further than MAYBE 15-19 on a good day. I don’t usually recommend traffic lawyers but in this case, one might be worth the fee.

Two, if your license is provisional, say goodbye to it for a while, you will probably beat the point threshold. If you have a full license you might squeak by.

I say might because speeding on a 70 carries extra points and fines, and I wasn’t able to tell how much for sure. In addition, the JUDGE can choose to impose additional charges for the 100+, but since the officer didn’t the judge probably won’t.

Also, there will be a mandatory insurance surcharge of up to 200% of the current rate assigned to you.

Oh, and the reason he called your parents is you were a minor just charged with a criminal offense. He has to.

  12. HOw do you figure going 102-106 mph isn’t reckless? Are you trying to kill somebody or are you just too immature to deserve a license?

You could lose your license for that and I hope you do. Otherwise you’ll just pay a really nasty fine and have points on your license.

  13. You’re lucky, usually for speeds in excess of 100mph, you’d get arrested for attempted vehicular manslaughter and have your license suspended. Count your blessings and pay the ticket.
