Out of state violation. Living in California… Speeding ticket in NJ?
I have a speeding ticket that I received while I was renting a car in NJ that I naively ignored until now... this is because I just received a Notice of Warrant for Arrest. I am specifically interested in my case, i.e. NJ-CA. I have a valid driving license in California and my questions are:
1) Is this warrant valid in California, i.e., can i get arrested here? (According to: http://www.carinsurance.com/kb/content20603.aspx since CA does not NRVC, the warrant is not honored in CA)
2) How many points will I get and I can beat the points by going to traffic school? (According to this, I get one point: http://www.dmv.ca.gov/dl/vioptct.htm#oneoutofstate)
3) Will it affect my insurance?
Anything else that you think I should know will also be appreciated.
Thanks!

Yes all this matters. Pay the ticket. It's going to be hard to go to court in NJ for the ticket so pay it get the details. You are going to have to pay the ticket someday. It will catch up with your insuarance of course it probably wont affect it much but yes they will catch up with you sooner or later. If you are already in default it is probably to late for driving school. You should have taken care of this when you first got it. Good luck renting a car again chaulk that up. Because they will catch up with you. Also California does not give a shit about what happen in a traffic case in NJ unless it was a felony. Good luck pay it and be done.

My father is a retired police officer. Although the warrant was not issued in CA, you do have a warrant out of state, and that will cause you to be arrested since it's on your record. That site is strictly regarding CA law, and the ticket sharing. Ticket sharing is different than warrant law. I am not sure about the insurance question though. What town was the ticket from?
And go to the state police website if you wish- http://www.state.nj.us/lps/njsp/

NJ will report it to California.
It is probably too late to go to traffic school.
A failure to appear warrant will not make your insurance company happy; contact NJ and clean it up as soon as you can.
