How fast above the speed limit do you go? How fast above will get you a speeding ticket?

I usually go 7 or 8 miles above the speed limit...

  1. The fine list actually STARTS at zero over……
How much leeway is only up to the cop’s temperament.

A local cop said one night: "I see you every night, you’re never speeding."
I guess it was a compliment.
My thought to myself was what they don’t know doesn’t hurt me.
Now, what you don’t know doesn’t either.

    I’m a law-abiding upstanding Citizen.
    (well, for the most part)
    70 in a 65 cost me $65.

  2. There is usually a "buffer" where they allow +/- 5% for speedometer error. You "Could" get a ticket for as little as 5mph over.

    I don’t speed.

  3. I think your safe at 5 over, you might be pushing your luck 7 or 8, but I think it depends the most on where you live. Here is So California there are so many people driving at least 10 over you would be safe here, I usually drive about 8 over here and people are either passing me and on my bumper! If you live in more remote parts of the country, you are much more likely to get a speeding ticket even slightly over the speed limit.

  4. technically there is no buffer
you could end up getting speeding ticket for even going one mile over the speed limit
(you never know you might get a new rookie out to make his first ticket so he will
stop the first car he sees or clocks speeding..
so it best just to stay at the speed limit or slower..
also the faster you go the easier its to get into an accident

  5. 5 over is pretty safe. That’s all I will take a chance on. You have people on here that tell you to "go with the flow", but you WILL eventually be cited if you are "flowing" more than 5 over the limit.

"going with the flow" doesn’t guarantee that you wont get a ticket, it merely reduces the likelihood, as cops are looking for the guy passing everyone usually.

If there’s no body passing everyone, he then picks someone in the group. THAT could be YOU.

  6. I know cops/ highway patrol do stake outs here in So CA and will pull over ANYONE going just 1mph above the speed limit. So just drive the speed limit. It is safer for you and those around you as well as more gas efficient. I had a friend pulled over for going 68 in a 65 zone. So better safe than sorry!

With that being said I drive the speed limit.

  7. do the limit/traffic roulette only pays off to the cops

  8. 9 your fine 10 your mine!!!

  9. The part of the country that I live in is sparsely populated both by citizens and Police. The Police cruise through here every Tuesday morning just behind the mail truck and they are no nonsense no tolerance types (RCMP).

Other than Tuesdays everyone just drives at whatever speed in comfortable for them. For some that is 50 MPH and for the more adventurous it is closer to a 100 MPH. I cruise at 80-85 MPH most days.

Speed limit on the Trans Canada highway here is 70 MPG. Been driving 40+ years and I’ve never had a ticket.

  10. most police forces normally allow 10%+2mph tho each one varies as to exactly wt
so to allow for slight inaccuracy of speedometers and to help stop motorists having to focus so constantly on their speedos than on the road ahead
but ye ive gone quite a bit over, obv being safe and that but i drive at a speed thats appropiate for wt is safe for the road, rather than just worry bout wt the limit is, dosen’t mean i drive like a boyracer or wreckless in any other way or that i’m always over the limit

  11. Depending on the road/weather conditions, I set my Cruise either right on the posted speed limit, or a notch below.

Anything above that posted speed could get you a speed ticket.

I’ve seen cars zoom past me, only to end up being pulled over.
