Would speeding past a cop while under the speed limit get you a ticket?
The other day I was at the intersection red light pulled next to a cop. When the light turned green I was tempted to speed up to 45 mph quicker than him (not over 45). I wouldn't spin the tires but I would have just accelerated past him.
Would this get me a ticket? Alot of people drive so slow around cops and even when you are going the speed limit the cops tailgate you it's annoying

Depending on the laws of your state rapid acceleration may be forbidden as an ‘exibition of speed.’ And if your tires break traction you can be cited for reckless driving.

No. As long as you didn’t go over the posted limit.

The only thing that he might tag you for is reckless driving…pretty thin.

In Georgia, US, that is considered disrespect of a cop and never disrespect a cop.

Sometimes when a cop is driving slower than the speed limit, he’s checking out the cars passing by. He’s probably looking for someone, or looking for a reason to make a ticket (profiling). Just drive on by. I’ve never ever gotten pulled over by doing the speed limit +5 past a cop.

Generally, you will not be cited for this. However, there are situations when the officer could issue a ticket:
1. Road conditions are hazardous (snow, ice, rain, etc) and your rate of acceleration was deemed to be "speeds excessive to conditions". But unless you do something stupid along the way, you probably won’t get pulled over for this. If your registration is expired, you’re texting, not wearing your seatbelt or something like that, he might just decide to execute a traffic stop because you brought yourself to their attention.
2. If the rate at which you accelerated was deemed to be reckless (hazardous), then you could be cited. But you noted that you did not go beyond the limit and gave the assumption that you sped up safely. Most officers won’t bother.
Many people drive slower than the posted limit when driving near me and yes, it can be frustrating because it slows down traffic in general and could create hazards. The best advice I can give is to be confident in your driving and follow the rules of the road and you shouldn’t have any problems with law enforcement.

If you’re not going past the speed limit you’re not speeding. If you do that however the cop might get pissed off and make something up, but it will not be for speeding.

Squealing your tires would likely net you a reckless driving ticket rather than a speeding ticket. The temptation you felt is nothing more than silly macho, and better left at home.

Along with what the others have said:
If you’re trying to accelerate faster than him, you’re street racing….here in Ohio at least.
That’s a felony.
I appreciate the Thumbs Down, but it’s the truth.

Driving erratically at any speed is going to get a cop’s attention. If you can’t explain yourself, I’ll write you up…

there is no law saying how fast you can accelerate to the current speed just dont spin tire or go faster then the speeding limit
