How To Beat A Speeding Ticket Avoiding, Contesting and Beating Speeding Tickets

21Sep/096

When you get a traffic ticket do insurance rates permanently go up?

Or temporary?

I got a 5 Over speeding ticket w. 2pts.

How much would the rates go up approx? Its a cadillac if that matters.

The cars in my moms name, would they even see the points since I was the driver?

My bf says I should hire an attorney and pay0 whopping bucks to wipe out the 2pts.

What should I do????? My dad cannot find out about this.

  1. It totally depends on what state you live in. Every state’s insurance regulations are different.

I don’t think the rates go up *permanently* in any state. They usually go up a lot right after the ticket and then go down again on a sliding scale, going back down gradually over a couple of years.

Your dad will find out, if he’s the one who gets the insurance bill.

  2. you can take a defensive driving course. its around 40 bucks and they take 2 pts away. plus ur insurance wont know bout a ticket for a couple of weeks.

  3. Many States have some type of traffic school, or other method to expunge the first offense within a certain period (e.g. 1 or 2 years). This is generally handled via paying the traffic fine plus an additional fee.

Failing this, the insurance company will find out at the next 6 month renewal. The rates will be adjusted to reflect the ticket. This insurance penalty lasts 3 years (regardless of State).

  4. the insurance rate will not go up permanently and not right a way (usually when it’s time to renew your insurance).so your dad wont find out-unless he’s paying for it.you dont need a lawyer if you have a clean record they probably recommend a driving improvement class also you can plea guilty and ask the judge to take the class,in some states it will award you 5 pts on your records.so dont listen to your bf ,just watch out for the cops, change your way of driving and maybe your bf too.

  5. Unfortunatly i work for an insurance agency in IL, so i’m not sure how exactly you may be impacted.

If your getting some sort of discount for good driving, such as with the company I work for it’s called a "Steer Clear Discount", that will be removed if it is on your record.

If you have had tickets or accidents previously it will influence your premiums. if it’s your first one, it shouldn’t. That is of course unless you have the discount i was talking about previously.

If your rates do get raised the maximum time you would have to pay for it is 3 years. after 3 years our company in IL does not count it against you.

    *********BEFORE YOU HIRE A LAWYER***********
I want to make sure if you read nothing else, please read this. A lot of my clients have been complaning that they have paid the fee, or hired a lawyer and the court has said it would not go on your record. Unfortunatly there have been may complaints that those situations are still coming up on their record, even after they pay all that money!

The worst thing… even if you pay the find, if it shows up on your license, your insurance company is going to look at it and they may raise your rates.
It totally sucks, but i’m not sure if it’s just pertaining to my area (i’m from Chicago area) or what.

I do not know if your mother or father will find out about this. I do know in IL whatever comes up on your drivers liscense is your personal buisness. so even if it is your mom’s car, she shouldn’t find out.

The only way I see your parents finding out is if you get mail about the ticket (which will happen if you don’t pay it in time) or on the insurance.
