Going to court for a speeding ticket?
I’m going to court soon for a speeding ticket. I didn’t have to go but I always heard if you at least go to court more often then not they’ll lower the fine or points, etc…
My question is what do I need to say / do to get a reduced charge? Or will the judge just assume that I’m there to get it reduced and offer something? Just never done this before Thanks.

I ALWAYS go to court when I get a ticket. Usually I plead guilty with an explanation. In my state, if you go to court the judge will usually give you a fine but reduce or eliminate the points.
My son had a ticket because he didn’t get the emission inspection on his car. It’s a $400 ticket. The judge reduced it to a $23 fine and court costs. $50 out the door.
My last ticket the officer didn’t show up so the judge threw it out. And I was going to plead guilty.

Unless you have a lawyer that is a *REALLY* bad idea. Most judges are more likely to just uphold the fine on you *AND* tack-on court costs (or even worse… they think you are wasting their time) so you will end up actually PAYING MORE in the long run.
Unless you want to get a lawyer (and pay his fee) because you really were innocent of the charges. But if you are guilty I seriously recommend just paying the fine.

Depending on the current status of your license you may want to get an attorney. If not, you usually go into the room prior to seeing the judge and speak with the officer who gave you the ticket and a court adviser. If you have a clean record, or there is a chance that you weren’t going as fast as he said you were, etc, they will probably lower the points but you may need to pay a larger fine.

ok you have few options, if they offer it, say you want to mitigate the ticket, (especially if you plead not guilty, but cannot really prove it), say you want to change to mitigation.. this means that you admit you did the offense but want to explain why, usually with mitigation you can get the ticket/points reduced, especially with a clean driving record.
the other thing you may want to consider is to get the ticket deferred if they offer it.. it costs like $100 but if your ticket is more than that it is a deal, due to if you defer the ticket and are good for a determined amount of time (usually a year) you won’t have to pay the rest of the ticket and it doesn’t go on your record… but if you get another ticket and are found guilty within that time frame then you have to pay both tickets and both go on your record.. if your usually a good driver i would pick this option..
always go to court, you have a much better chance of getting the ticket reduced if you go to court and explain what happened to the judge, he will most likely know that you want it reduced.. also, after you get it reduced (or if you can’t for some reason) tell the court clerk that you need payment plans.. then you can pay over a period of time, which helps out greatly in some cases.

no need to go to court to get some points or lower the penalty whatsoever. you’ll need make a right attitude rather than to go to court. something happen in you why you are going to court? no need to go to court if you are not summoned. it’s bothering to you that you are not found guilty by the judge.
