speeding violation in Kansas?
I was pulled over in Kansas (Overland Park) for speeding. The officer issued me a verbal, and I thought that was the end of it (I did not receive a summons to appear in court). about a month later i received a letter from the city saying that I had missed my court date (I had received nothing prior in the mail regarding this). I called the "Justice Center", who told me the officer turned in the ticket to them. The only option I saw was to plead not guilty because the officer had issued me a verbal warning and had never physically issued me a summons. Can he retroactively issue me a summons without notice after issuing a verbal warning, or do I not have anything to stand when it goes to court? I would think it highly unfair that the police could do such a thing.
Any insight would be appreciated, Thanks.

I always thought in all states you had to sign the ticket as just saying you will show up for court. If you did not sign the ticket, I don’t understand how this could be done. I don’t see how this can stand up, most states you can go to jail if you refuse to sign the ticket.. I would have some real questions here.

I guess the lesson you learned is "not to trust cops".
He probably realized he needed to fill his quota and decided to screw you over, isn’t that nice of him?
