So I got a speeding ticket this morning by a cop who was going in opposite direction(is that even possible I mean r those radars capable of picking up the speed of the cars going in opposite direction?) but my main question is, When cop gave me my ticket I noticed that he did not fill in the part where it says which type of radar he used to determine my speed so my question is, Is that a good reason to fight the ticket since it doesn’t say how he got my speed or just pay my 200 bucks and get the ticket amended?
Aprroximatly A week and a half ago I was cited for 51mph in a 35 mph zone. It was 8pm at night on a clear night. My route of travel was I had exited a freeway in hawaii on my way to a military base. The only sign visible was a yellow caution sign at the beginning of the multi-lane exit stating 35mph on the right shoulder. After about a 1/4 of a mile of disecting ramps 3 inways come together and form a six lane roadway which people have to merge atleast three different times to make the right lane for about 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile before splitting again for 2 different bases. The police were sitting at this split with 2 cars and about 6 to 7 officers. 2 cops were taking radar while everyone else was writing tickets presumably based on the info they were being fed. The ticket says that there two signs when in fact there was only 1 which said the words RAMP"above "35 mph". Second the ticket states a distance of 1065 which a presume is feet. My wife was sitting in the back. FIGHT IT
So, I was going 81 mph on a 65 mph freeway in the Bay Area in California. I got pulled over for the first time and got my first speeding ticket. Few weeks later, I got a letter with four options. The options are:
*Proof of Correction [{content}]
*To Pay Your Ticket (Bail Forfeiture) [3.50]
*Request Court Appearance [3.50]
sub option-Arraignment (hear my charges, enter plea, advisement)
sub option-Court Trial (contest the citation)
*Traffic school [7.50]
I don’t really know which one to choose, as I want to lessen/not pay the amount and I also want the point gone from my record. It wasn’t like I was going to go 81mph the whole time, just that moment and no one ever goes 65mph on the left side lane. Plus there were very few cars on the freeway on that night, and was clear skies. I felt like the cop was only trying to fill his daily quota, because he didn’t really say much to me, just did the procedures and left in a hurry.
Me: license since 17, is 20 years old now. First ticket ever
I was late to my university’s final exam today, a minute away from my apartment complex, I forgot I had left my oven on. So I turned around, drove & got stopped.
He said he pulled me over for speeding, asked for my license and regisration. I couldn’t find my registration, kept looking, but he said nevermind.
He said he pulled me over for doing a 47 in a 30. On the way back, I had no gas, so I kept looking at my rpm guage to keep it under 2,000. I only remember seeing my spedometer going up to 44, not 47. I didn’t think I went 47, but i didn’t say anything as I was in a hurry.
The only thing I told the officer was that I had an exam in 10 minutes I was late to, and I had forgotten something at home. That something was turning off the oven, but I didn’t mention that, as I was kinda scared, being my first ticket .
Is there anything I can do? Say there was an emergency (oven on), wrong speed, late to exam?
Going 44 instead of 47 makes me in a different speeding bracket ($)
If I say I went 44 instead, will that count as not guilty? Meaning if his radar somehow shows 47 instead, will I have to pay the court fee’s on top of the ticket cost?
He was an oldish man, not wearing a hat. I was partly bald.
Oh yeah, he tried to get me again when I went back to school, and he was tailing me about 2 cars behind. I noticed him, and he didn’t turn his blinker on when turning. I did. Does that matter at all?
I found a speeding ticket just now that I didn’t pay. (its 1 month over-due as of today). For the first court date, I went to court and had it set for trial. I then went to the trial date, the judge decided that the officer was right due to use of radar to clock my cars speed, and the judge gave me a paper that said "Ticket/fine cost of 0, must be paid by no later by 8am on August 20th. The fine must be paid in person or by mail by August 20th, and if unable to pay you must appear on this date to explain why you can’t pay. If you do not pay and do not show up to explain why, a warrant for arrest will be issued and an additional 0 warrant fee would be added in addition to the ticket/fine cost, unless you had a valid/lawful reason why you didn’t show up."
I completely forgot about it, but now that I know I want to take care of it and pay it ASAP. Two problems though… First is I wont have the full amount of the warrant cost + ticket cost until TUESDAY (so tomorrow), as that’s when I get my paycheck. The other problem is I have a DMV hearing TODAY due to too many point violations on my license in a 12 month period(the hearing is not till later today though), and although it’s unrelated to the actual city court-system as it’s a DMV HEARING at the DMV, I’m pretty sure that when I go there, the DMV hearing officer will have to review my driving history/record/etc to decide if they will allow me to keep my license, and when they do, if that unpaid ticket has turned into a warrant (NO IDEA if it has or not, as I never got a letter saying I had a warrant, nor have I gotten any mail letter or phone-call from the court), then the DMV will be able to see that, and they’d might just call the authorties without me knowing while im there waiting and have me arrested + probably my license would be suspened for sure without even being able to have a hearing. It’d then look like I was trying to avoid/not pay the ticket, even though I WANT TO! The other option, is if I FIRST go to the city court-house instead when they open today, but I don’t know if they’d arrest me at the court-house, (assuming I had a warrant for the unpaid ticket). Even though I WANT to pay it, and I know I made a mistake by forgetting about it but I want to pay it and clear it up ASAP, I just wonder if the judge if in a bad mood or something decided to have me arrested instead of letting me pay partial today, and the entire rest of it tomorrow…. I have no idea how it works or how harsh they can be about things like that.
Now i had gotten a speeding ticket for going 57 in a 45. The officer told me to plead not guilty! So i did. He never showed up in court and the judge still without him there i had to plead guilty or not guilty. She was saying something was wrong with the way the officer wrote the ticket but i lost m copy so i couldnt remember what it said. Now i plead not guilty and she found me guilty and said she would let me off with no points and i had to pay 126 dollars! Now on my court paper it says i exceeded the limit by 5 miles and was found guilty. I dont think this was fair at all! I thought u could go 5 miles over so why did i get fined? and the officer didnt show up either. Is this allowed?
oh and will my insurance go up???
um well remind me to never ask a question again people are so harsh here.I was going down a hill. It wasnt like i was passing cars out i had cars in front of me and back but the officer said he pulled me over because! I was caught even though i wasnt the only one and i dont remember going that fast. And i live in Pennsylvania! I just feel like because i was colored person the lady judge gave me the ticket!!! its not fair! what she did to me when the officer didnt show up!!
so i got a speeding ticket. the cop said i was doing 50 in a 25. but i was in a 30 zone and was doing 40mph i was followin a bunch of cars up the dang hill…just keepin up with traffic he gave me a ticket for 247$ also on the ticket he said i have red hair i dont and put the wrong exp. of my tabs down.. should i contest the ticket.. mostly because i know i was doing forty… and it was a 30 zone and not 25??
i want to know if any one can get me any ideal on thurday my daughther got soap in her eye i thoght i had wash it out on firday she woke up crying said her eye hurt i call the doctor to see if i can get her in because i knew they close at 1pm
i got my kids ready and try to get her there fast that i can i was speed a little not that much i thoght the speed limet was 50 and it was 45 the cop could see my daugther in pain and he did not either tell me how fast i was going what i get if i was speed why did he too so long to pull me over where he pull was about 3 mill befor he pull me over i just look see how fast i was going it was 54 not 68 thicket said it got me with a radar
how do i know it was for me there a lot of cars on that road i could go to court i could loose and get the point or i can do or thake the school on dvd i did that one before about 7 year ago i don’t how the online is if ya was me what will ya do
Thanks
Here’s the situation:
In Jan 2009, around 1pm, high noon, weekday, EMPTY road, no traffic, no cars parked, very wide two way road, 4 lanes total, I was driving down a long winding rode in Daly City, CA, Guadalupe Canyon Expressway, speed limit 45mph going around 45-50 as I go down the hill, I see the police officer on his bike on the left side like 30 feet away. Naturally, I slow down and approach the stop sign coming up, full stop naturally. As I finish my stop, the cop, who was to the left of me, immediately pulls up behind me, and says I was speeding up in a school zone?! He then writes a speed limit of 50mph on my ticket. Naturally I am very pissed.
I got to court and the judge says I am not eligible for traffic school because I had a stop sign citation earlier last year….he asks me if I want to settle or fight it. I opted to fight. Was that a good idea? I have no exp fighting an officer in court. Anyways, my court date is in June 2009, hoping that he either doesn’t show or his memory is fuzzy.
need some help! What should I do? On the ticket he says no radar used…if that helps….
thanks guys any suggestions are appreciated!
i know I slowed down to 25 within the school zone, i was going down fast but no so fast that it was dangerous….but he said that I was speeding up in the school zone??? what do u guys think?
I recently got a ticket for speeding that I am definitely contesting. The officer was parked on private property off the road I was driving on shooting radar on vehicles passing down a hill. He was obscured from drivers view by a large pile of tree limbs that were right in front of him. He pulled me over saying I was going 54. I never exceeded 40mph down the hill. The speed limit was 35 but I like accuracy when it comes to paying the fine. I have been told by law enforcement folks both active and retired that they were always trained to never shoot radar at cars from behind a billboard, off the road, or from another adjacent road because court decisions have overturned speeding tickets that way and if presented in court the court will drop it. I looked through the decisions from the circuit court in my area but have been unable to find it. I have some other circumstances to contest in court but I am wondering if where he was at is a legal place to get radar from. I do not want to bring up their advice without having another basis other than opinion. I am also not wanting to sound petty in court. I will pay the fine if found guilty but I want my speed to be reflected correctly if I have to pay it.
This took place around quarter to 4 in the afternoon. I saw the flashing lights fr. far away but since I was coming down for a slight hill, I was trying hard to put on my brakes from 35 to 20 mph and the stupid camera caught me goin at 29 mph. I was on my way to class and was jus braking until it could get to 20.
My feeling is that I should jut pay for it – i’m driver in my 20’s and they’ll take advantage of that; I was in a school zone (even though school was done for the day)….what should I do? My only worry is that my insurance rates will go up. I’m not a bad driver and have never been in an accident. HELP
Also, I don’t want to deal with this. I feel that I would rather just pay it and get it over with. I hate these damn cameras…i’m not a bad driver and that one time i was rushing to class, it takes a picture
This won’t be on my record, right? Do i have to take classes? This is in Washington state btw
*** ALSO, one more question: I was driving my mom’s car (under her name), how can i change it and take her name of it and put mines?
This was in the afternoon when school was already dismissed. There weren’t any cars in the school parking lot as I passed by.
I was driving in NJ, in a 25mph residential road. I honestly have no idea how fast I was going, it was really dark, no cars on the road, I had no reference objects, driving a smooth comfortable car. I passed a cop who was stopped, and he ticketed me for 40mph in a 25, not stating on the ticket any equipment used, so I assume he just estimated. Should I at least go to court just to ask how he knows I was speeding? I’m not really fighting, saying "I wasn’t speeding" I just simply didn’t know my speed, and I want to press this issue because its a lotta money! I sort of want to call or write him at the station and ask him how he knew I was speeding, or just ask for mercy without admitting guilt. Then at least go to court. I simply don’t have the money to pay, and they want it by 12 days (10 days if I mail it) I can’t make 5 by then.
the fact that it was dark and there were no other cars to gauge is relevant (though not a legal defense) because I could either monitor my speed on the dash, or watch the winding road which I was unfamiliar with. Personally I like not running off the road when its pitch black.
It looks like people are ignoring the fact that there was NO RADAR used in this ticket, so I can’t question the radar.
Looking for information on procedure for the issuance of a speeding ticket. When the truth didn’t work, I now am being forced to look for a "technical" problem with the issuance of a speeding ticket. The ticket was given a the bottom of a huge hill, in where there was no way a visual could have been done prior to the radar going off. The radar was locked at 55 in a 35 zone. HELP! I was never going that fast, even had an eye witness in the car with me.

More Information: The distance to from the crest of the hill to bottom is about 1/4 mile. The radar would have had to see me first. His car was stationary, facing the same direction, (10 pm on a friday night one would think he would be facing forward not turned around visualizing cars coming down the hill), with ative radar on, and in plain sight. Traveling 55 mph down a hill one would only have ~~ 13 seconds. I find it difficult to believe you can turn around, visualize in the dark, and then have your lights on before I reached him!
I was falling 2 auto a white 1 and a red 1. Cop turnes his lights on b4 he got 2 the 1st auto. So, I am just falling them about 5 car leighs behind the 2nd. 1. I see the cop is behind me so I am getting over thinking he is going 2 stop the #2 car 4 falling 2 close. He pulls in behind me and ask me 2 c my dl and ask me about my grandson sitting next 2 me say’n he was standing up (which he was in a car seat) and I told him he was. He said it look like he was standing. So, he as 4 my auto ins. and I ask how fast was the other cars in front of me going and he said "45". Then he goes back 2 his car (He wasn’t nice talking either) So, he comes back and say’s he thinks my Grandson was standing up (again) I told him he wasn’t and he says he is giving me a ticket for going 55 in a 35. I told him I couldn’t have been going that fast and I was just falling the cars in front of me and he says "No, you where try’n 2 catch up 2 the other cars and I said no I wasn’t and how fast was the other cars going and he said it didn’t matter how fast they where going that I was try’n 2 catch up w/them.
So, my sister was w/me all so and just told me 2 take the ticket and fight it in court. So, what should I do? Go get an attorney or what bcs. I do know I wasn’t going 55 in a 35, it wasn’t even 35 when I seen him and I wonder if he got the wrong auto. or if it was just that my grandson had pushed himself up enough 2 see the sunsetting (bcs. my sister said look at the sun and he leaned up 2 see it and the police seen him at that point. I just don’t know what 2 do? Help
I thought the point of having law enforcement was to ensure that people obey the law and promote public safety; not hide like ninjas with radar guns and bag people who go over the speed limit. Wouldn’t it make sense to have the cop in the open? I know if I see a cop in the open, I would slow down automatically. Getting a ticket doesn’t make me learn my lesson. It just makes people hate cops. What do you think?
Why would you slow down randomly? They hide. So unless you drive the speed limit all the time, you will eventually get bagged. If they stay in the open, people will see them and will slow down, in fear of getting caught.
Unless you’re saying you think every place is a suspected place where a cop could be, so you drive around under speed limit all the time. Then good for you.
I don’t consider going 40 in a 30 being unreasonable. Those are the kind of tickets I get, even though cops themselves speed when they are off duty.
The point is I don’t know I’m being targeted because the cop is hiding behind a bush. Going 40 in a 30 is not unreasonable. Many people do it; especially early morning when no cars are on the road and I’m going to work.
that the additional revenue you generate is more than offset by fewer people buying the thing you are taxing? Like smokes.
Or installing a camera to ticket cars that run a stop sign, etc, or a speed trap. After people see the new camera installed, they obey the law, so the revenue that was to be generated by the tickets is lost, since people are now OBEYING the law.
Your thoughts.
Thanks
When driving I will occasionally see black wires that are run across the road and run over them. Usually laid down in a pair avout a foot a part from each other. Are these used for speed traps or to count the cars that use the road or something?
I was driving home from the movies yesterday around 4am in the morning. Since there were no cars around in the freeway I drove around 80-85mph when all of a sudden I saw red lights behind me. I’ve never been pulled over in my life and I’ve had my license for almost 10 months. The officer asked how fast I was going and I just said "i’m guessing around 80mph." He said speed limit was 65 and he wrote me a citation of 80mph.
Is there anything i should be concerned about? And what do i have to do after i get a speeding ticket for the first time?
Thanks all..
So I was going 40 in a 25mph construction zone and got caught. The fine is 4, I’ve been driving for 2 years clean until now. This is my very first ticket. How can I get it deferred/reduced?
I wasn’t the only one who got caught. These guys were catching people one after another. Like right after they let me go, they pulled over another person. They probably got over 30 cars today!
I am a minor with a legal license. Today I was driving home with both of my parents from having an Easter lunch with my grandparents (one day early, it was convenient) and was traveling 60 mph (59, actually, but lets round) in the left-hand lane of a high speed highway. (I would eventually have to be in that lane anyway, because the right-hand went somewhere I didn’t want to go.) The normal speed limit on that road is 65, but because of road work, it was reduced to 55 and hadn’t returned to normal yet. Several cars proceeded to pass me on the right at SEVENTY mph, and, due to this, even if I had wanted to return to the right lane, it would have been very difficult without accelerating to a speed at which either my parents would grow angry or I would feel uncomfortable and unlawful at. By chance, a police cruiser arrived behind me and promptly pulled me over, perplexing both myself and my parents. He proceeded to write a ticket for "traveling at cruising speed in a fast/passing lane" (the ticket said "slow moving vehicle failed to move to right lane"). Not only was I OVER the speed limit, but I was in poor conditions to make the desired shift, and if I had chosen to accelerate to do so anyway, he could have lawfully given me a speeding fine.
Now that the situation and reason have been established, here is my question: What do the Florida traffic laws state about the maximum speed one may go in the left lane in order to pass a vehicle in the right lane, or what is a website at which I could find or inquire about this information? I am concerned about the legitimacy of my ticket, as are my parents.
(Aside, what kind of police officer ENCOURAGES a teenage driver to accelerate regularly when she is already five over the posted limit? Christ!)
Another car in front of me was pulled over also by a single motorcycle cop sitting roadside under a freeway overpass. Morning traffic, no cars in front or around us. Happened in California.
He said I was going 54 in a 40 on a bright sunny day when I had just gotten off the freeway and there were no other cars on the road. I was close to getting home and he was sitting conveniently in a church parking lot. He pulled out and followed me until I got to my street before actually turning his lights on. I’m considering trying the whole trial by written declaration because he was a fairly young guy with a Monster Drink and KROQ sticker on his ticket board; not the type that would want to take time out of his summer to come up with a written account that he’s not even getting payed extra for.
Hi everyone. I got 2 speeding tickets in the same day after not getting a speeding ticket in over 7 years!! The first time I was caught in a speed trap they had set up and they were pulling over a ton of people, the second time, out of everyone who WAS speeding, they pulled ME over! Both times the roads were full of cars, so I’m not even sure the speed they have for me is accurate. Anyways, I want to fight the tickets because between the 2 it is a lot of money. The thing is, I’m about 8 1/2 months pregnant (my baby is due in 5 weeks). What if they want me to come in on a date that I am maybe still in the hospital or just got out, or when the baby is just a few weeks old? Are there special circumstances where you can write your plea and send it in by mail? Also, I got the tickets about 2 hours away from where I live….can anyone help?
This is in San Diego California.
So my 2 other friends and I were driving and we were going to meet up other friends at his house. My 2 friends were suppose to be following me but we hit a red light and it was a 3 lane. I was in the middle lane and my 2 friends were on my left and right. When the light turned green we didn’t race, We drove normal then I accelerated to try to cut my friend on the left lane because we had to bust a U-turn on the next light which was probably 1/4 a mile away going downhill. So when I accelerated my 2 friends sped up with me and they both raced past me. Remember I’m in the middle lane. I only sped up to about 48mph and the max speed was 50mph but my friends probly drove past me going like 60mph. When I stopped accelerating and my friends past me they slowed down too because they were suppose to follow me so my friend finally lets me get in front of him in the left lane and my friend on the far right lane comes behind me and my friend in a straight line. We hit the red light and we all busted a u-turn and thats where we all got pulled over by 1 cop. I was in the front of the line. So after we got stopped the cop ran to my car first and told me to get out of the car and frisked me. He didn’t frisk my other 2 friends though. Then they just questioned us 1 by 1 and pretty much he was trying to intimidate me to try to say that I was racing. He did get my 2 friends to admit that they were racng though because my friends were really scared and didnt know what to say. He asked me why we were racing and my answer was "I wasn’t racing, I was trying to speed up to get to the left lane in front of my friend before the light." Then he said who won that race? I said "Like i said I wasn’t racing but my friends were following me to my friends house which they didnt know where it was so that was the reason why I was in the front at the light." Then he asked some other questions that I forgot but yeah all our cars got impounded and I got a ticket for speeding contest… I really don’t want this on my record because I really wasn’t trying to race nor was I racing. If you guys have any advice that would be very helpful. Thanks.
Additional Details
But the police don’t have proof that I was racing either… They didn’t even catch my speed on RADAR! So aren’t I innocent until "PROVEN" guilty? How can they prove that I was racing when they didn’t catch my speed nor see from a side view. Also he gave me a ref ticket for having a modified exhaust when my exhaust was STOCK Straight out from the factory! I had an arguement with him over this. He said "You know how many racer cars I’ve impounded! That’s not a stock exhaust its modified…" I’m going to the junk yard to take pictures of it before I take it out to show the judge. If the cop can make such a simple mistake like that how do you know if he didn’t mistake me for racing too… Also my friends can also back me up in court that I wasn’t racing with them.
