I recieved a speeding ticket going 88 in a 65 coming back from a town about an hour from where I live…I told my parents I was at work but really I was actually very far away, they are really strict about everything I do which is why I am pretty down about this situation. I am trying to get this ticket stuff done so they won’t find out… I got the ticket yesterday and signed up for Defensive Driving and started some lessons today, I haven’t completed the course yet because I haven’t sent my ticket back to the judge asking to relieve the ticket. I am really worried, this is my first ticket so I don’t really know what to do does anyone have any advice on what I should do (is it okay if i am signed up doing DD now before i get the ticket relieved)? what I should send? If i should tell my parents? what is the process is like?

Thank You for your help guys I went ahead and told my parents. I figured that i would get in more trouble if they found out. They are angry but I feel alot better. If i had tried to take care of the ticket myself i would have done it all wrong (I showed the ticket and forms to my dad and there were many errors). I’ve really learned a lot from this very short amount of time.

If I had a bit more time I could get the money, but it would be impossible for me right now.

last night i got my first speeding ticket ever.. i was going 15mph over 50mph and i was polite to the cop and everything. the cop said the court is optional and the fine is 5.. i really dont mind paying for the ticket but i just dnt want the insurance to go up.. the car’s under my dad’s name and he’s paying for insurance since i’m paying for my college tuition (yea and i got no financial aid so i’m really struggling with money) i really dont want my dad to be mad about the insurance.. so what should i do? i know i should go in to court and talk to DA, but should i hire a lawyer? or should i just "negotiate" about the ticket? do you think DA could dismiss the ticket if it was my first ticket?

two weeks ago i got my first speeding ticket doing 52 at a 35 speed zone. the ticket says to be at court before or at feb. 11. this is my first ticket and the officer said i can take a class but my dad called the court and they said to show up on the court date so we went to the building and the lady we talk to said to be at the court date and they will go from there. many people said to me to sign up before the court date for a class. should i go to court and might by chance sign up for a class on court date or go back down there before the 11 to ask to sign up for a class? need as much detail.

SO… I got pulled over last night trying to beat my curfew. It was like 2minutes from my house and there was no traffic. I got a ticket for doing a 77 in a 45. Yea, thot it was a 55 and that I was doing 70 but it doesn’t matter does it?? So i have a court date the 17th of march. Is there anyway I can get out of this? I got my license 6months ago. Never been pulled over before or got into an accident and I never speed. This was the only time, and I got caught!!! I’m responsible, I just can’t wait another 9months til I’m 18 to get my license again, really, my bf lives like 30min away and he’s already upset we can barely see eachother. Please help. My dad talked to a cop thats his friends and said if I was 18 I could have been in serious trouble. He thinks my license will be taken away til I’m 18, and I’ll be doing community service, and on a 2year probation!!! WTF?? 77 in a 45 is 22 miles over the speed limit, but I swear I was doin 70, which is below 20?? does that make a difference?? What do I say and do in court? How do I act, play dumb and plead guilty??
ahh, did i mention that there were two cops and that means two witnesses soooo its guaranteed one of them will show up in court!!

I just got a ticket in the mail for speeding (40 in a 30). The ticket was issues by a stationary radar van with cameras. The car is in my dad’s name, any ideas on how to get out of this mess?
The ticket was in Beaverton Oregon. I was driving the car, but the car is registered in my dad’s name, so the ticket has his name on it. The paper that came with it says if the owner of the car says he is innocent he must provide the person who was driving the car (not sure of the validity of this) the speed limit was posted right next to the van.

I am under my Dad’s insurance and I just received my first (and hopefully last) speeding ticket. Will this ticket raise the monthly insurance rate? Will the insurance company (State Farm) even hear of this ticket?

I was going 23 MPH over the speed limit (53 in a 30 MPH zone). I don’t see a mandatory court date. He just gave me a the ticket and green envelope for the fine I have to pay. He suggested going to the 2 hour driving class or what not to wipe it off my record.

I just got my first speeding ticket yesterday… Going 48 on a 35 speed limit. My question is, will that raise my insurance rate at all? I use State Farm and live in Minnesota. Car is insured under my dad’s name and I’m 20. Also, I’ve had two other tickets before: the first one was for not moving away from emergency vehicle (I was driving on the lane next to two cops while they were pulling someone over) and the second one was a moving violation ("swerving" too much due to my poor vision).
The first one was three years ago.. The moving violation and speeding was this year. But I’ve heard someone told me that the first two won’t go on my record because they were ‘minor’ violations?

I was traveling on the 395 in California the other day, and I was pulled over by a CHP officer. He claims I was traveling at 85 mph. On the ticket, it says he used radar, but the speed is marked at 80+. This seems contradictory. My question is if he was using radar, shouldn’t he have to provide a specific speed? And could I send a written statement to the court notifying them of this? Would it get me out of the ticket?

Also, he never showed me the actual radar. I’ve heard that police officers are supposed to show you the radar if they use it to get your speed.
#1 If he was sitting there using radar, it wouldnt have given him multiple speeds. My dad is a police officer and he was saying that when he marks radar, at his department he can’t put down an ambiguous number like that.

#2 On the ticket, he marked that he used radar, not that he paced me. If he really used the radar, then he should have an exact speed.

#3 As much as I love whining, the town is 6 hours away, I can’t go to court to fight it, I wanted to send in some kind of written statement with the bail. The back of the ticket says something about being able to do that.

I was given a 8 speeding ticket for going 50mwph in a 35mph and a loud exhaust. I missed my court two days ago and plan on going in about two hours. On one of the pages they mailed me it says if I fail to appear my license is suspended until I pay . Everyone I know is telling me if you miss a court date you get a warrant for your arrest though. My dad even thinks when I go to court in two hours they’ll make me spend a night in jail.

I’m not sure what to expect this is first violation ever so I’ve never been to court or had to deal with anything like this.

I got a speeding ticket for going 45 on 30. When I went to the court on the due date, the lady in the counter asked me whether I am guilty or not. She said that the answer should only be given in Yes or No, no justification is required. I answer yes but I also said that the car’s speed increased because I was going downhill and my foot wasn’t on the gas. That bitch only listened Yes, nothing else. After that she said I can go and fine will come in the mail. I didnt get any chance to negotiate or talk to the judge.
So, today I got a letter that I have to pay 5 (0 fine + subcharge)…..

On the other hand same thing happened to my dad 5 months ago, the only difference is that he was going 55 on 30, he got chance to talk to the judge and his fine was . Also there was 7-8 miles difference in distance where my dad went to he court and where I went.

Do you think it is right ??
When I went to the court, the clerk said that speeding cases are deal with this way and cases which involve DUI/DWI etc get chance to talk to the judge

im turning 17 this febuary, and last night i got a speeding ticket for doing 57 in a 40 zone. i was coming down a huge hill somewhere in sandy, made a left and almost crapped my pants when i saw the lights. im not sure where he clocked me from, but it WAS a big hill, a very dark night and i was too pissed off about other things and trying to get the windshield to defog that i probably didnt notice how fast i was goin. i have 4 days left till i have to contact the court and i really dont think i was going that fast! how do i go about contesting this? how do i tell my parents? how do i keep this off my insurance? of course, my dad will FLIP, make me pay the fine, and sacrifice my job money for f*** knows how long to pay off insurance and everything!! (just when i was about to invest in a radar detector) …so now im broke, trying to figure out what to tell him. What do i do????!?!!

Today I recieved two tickets; speeding and not having my license on me. I was barefooted, too, but he didn’t see that… I live on an island and my parents asked me to move my jeep out of the driveway so they could back out… I figured I’d drive to the first street on the right, pull in, turn around, then come back and park back in the driveway… I was going over 40 on a 35mph road, and a bicyclist was on my lane. There are two lanes going in opposite directions. I sped up to get around the bicyclist. I sped up because if I had gone slower, I could have side-swiped oncoming traffic which was further down the road. As soon as I passed the bicyclist, I turned onto the first road and was making a u-turn when the cop pulled behind me with his lights on.

He gave me a ticket for speeding, and for not having my license on me. I didn’t have my license because I had only expected to back out of the driveway, and then pull back in once my parents were out. My dad is furious, because he pays the insurance, and my tickets effect that…

Anyway, I want to know whether or not I should go to court or just pay the fines? Either way, I know I’m guilty of speeding, and am trying to find a way out of this because I don’t want a bad driving record, as I am only 19 and I usually drive very carefully… What is my best bet here? Should I just wait and go to court in July and hope the judge goes easy on me, or what?

I was going 49 on a 35. 14mph over the speed limit… 15mph over = wreckless driving. I have been driving since October 2008. Only about 7 months now. I generally drive good, and this is my first offense. I was being extremely careless. I didn’t even mean to go to the end of the road to turn around and re-park in my own driveway.
I know that I am guilty, so I don’t want to plead not guilty. I want to be honest, but I don’t want to be run over, either…

So I got a speeding ticket for 3.00. When it happened, i didnt realise i was speeding until i saw the lights, but i know i was speeding, because i looked at my spedometer when i heard the sirens. So i have a court date, or i can pay the 113. What difference does it make (money-wise) if I go to court and plead guilty, will i have to pay the ticket and court costs, or one or the other, or what? What are the chance that he will be deported because it is a crime of violence? This is his first encounter with the law outside of a speeding ticket. He is here legally with conditions removed from his green card. We’re talking to his defense attorney and an immigration lawyer, but it seems like the immigration guy just wants ,000 before he’ll even give us a straight answer. Hard to justify if we don’t even know if DHS will pick up my ex.
There is more to the story, though it’s not relevent to the charges or question. I’m involved because we have a 3 year old son and he is a good dad. As stated, he’s never done this to me; we separated on amicable terms. He is already seeking counseling for his depression/anger. I believe he deserves a second chance, but only a 2nd not a 3rd.

I understand that if you have car insurance and get a ticket for the first time, the cost might not go up a lot. However, I don’t have car insurance yet (rather, my dad can’t pay for it anymore, so I have to get my own) so I’ll have the ticket on my record when I get the insurance.

It’s 3 points and I’m in Wisconsin, and it’s my first offense. Obviously I’ll shop around and frankly ask the reps if it’ll affect it, but for starters I’m asking here – will this make the initial cost more expensive for a few years? If so, will it be a dramatic difference?
