Aprroximatly A week and a half ago I was cited for 51mph in a 35 mph zone. It was 8pm at night on a clear night. My route of travel was I had exited a freeway in hawaii on my way to a military base. The only sign visible was a yellow caution sign at the beginning of the multi-lane exit stating 35mph on the right shoulder. After about a 1/4 of a mile of disecting ramps 3 inways come together and form a six lane roadway which people have to merge atleast three different times to make the right lane for about 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile before splitting again for 2 different bases. The police were sitting at this split with 2 cars and about 6 to 7 officers. 2 cops were taking radar while everyone else was writing tickets presumably based on the info they were being fed. The ticket says that there two signs when in fact there was only 1 which said the words RAMP"above "35 mph". Second the ticket states a distance of 1065 which a presume is feet. My wife was sitting in the back. FIGHT IT
I got a speeding ticket from a police officer in a car. How do they check your speed, I was on the freeway, doing 75 on a 65. I know motorcycle cops use radar, or laser, how about car cops?
I got a speeding ticket on the freeway doing 93 in a 65. This is my very first offense, Reason I didn’t do my Community service was because I got a new job at Lockheed and forgot about it. Helping my sick aunt doing school and working I just totally forgot about it till I was cleaning my car and found out I am a week late… Will I go to jail over this ?
So, I was going 81 mph on a 65 mph freeway in the Bay Area in California. I got pulled over for the first time and got my first speeding ticket. Few weeks later, I got a letter with four options. The options are:
*Proof of Correction [{content}]
*To Pay Your Ticket (Bail Forfeiture) [3.50]
*Request Court Appearance [3.50]
sub option-Arraignment (hear my charges, enter plea, advisement)
sub option-Court Trial (contest the citation)
*Traffic school [7.50]
I don’t really know which one to choose, as I want to lessen/not pay the amount and I also want the point gone from my record. It wasn’t like I was going to go 81mph the whole time, just that moment and no one ever goes 65mph on the left side lane. Plus there were very few cars on the freeway on that night, and was clear skies. I felt like the cop was only trying to fill his daily quota, because he didn’t really say much to me, just did the procedures and left in a hurry.
Me: license since 17, is 20 years old now. First ticket ever
I was travelling towards a city on the freeway, when i got to the city, i slowed down. after travelling through all 7 miles of the city a cop pulled me over on the outskirts… first he told me that he had the radar on me going 85 in a 55 zone about 2.5 miles out of his town (he was an officer of the town, not a sherrif or trooper) then he took my information down. he came back ten minutes later telling me that an off duty officer saw me going 80mph and called him about it…. then after a few more minutes of conversation he told me that he had the radar on me going 80mph, but then on the ticket he wrote that I was going 80mph in a 35mph zone in the middle of the town (approximately 7.5 miles from where he originally said)
i have been thinking about fighting this ticket because…. he told me he found out i was speeding three different ways (first radar at 85, then an off duty officer going 80, then radar at 80) and he told me he saw me speeding on the freeway outside of his jurisdiction but changed the location on the ticket to inside his jurisdiction…. after it was all over he, urged me to just mail in the ticket so I could get some back….. what are some opinions of people out there?
I received a speeding ticket on the 14 freeway right before I-5. Now I admit (just between you and I) that i was going 70mph but NOT 86… what can i do? should or could i contest this ticket or have the fine lowered i am a single mother of a one year old, i am going to school(respiratory therapy btw), and i just don’t have 3 to pay. i do want to pay it all at once and attend traffic school. Can i explain to the judge my circumstance and have the fine lowered? also can i request a change of venue so i can go to the courthouse near my house? thanks!
BTW i HATE the 14 freeway! i was going 70 and still had people swerving around me as if i wasn’t going fast enough! just venting ![]()
BOB T …. that’s what i was thinking too, because i asked him(the cop) how he knew for sure it was me like i said i was doing 70, i had my daughter and two year old sister in the car so i am NOT about to be speeding, you know? I asked him how he didnt know that it was the car next to me because traffic was very heavy, BUT he didn’t even answer me!
BTW does it matter what the highway is like? because i was coming down a hill as well?
Should I fight the speeding ticket in court or at least get it lowered? help out a broke student!!!?
So I was stopped for speeding today. . . Since I’ve never received a citation before I thought I was going to get a warning since it was the first time I got stopped I was trying really hard to keep a clean record until I reached 23 ( i was going to turn 23 on march. . soooo close) to get insurance under my name so I won’t pay a lot in insurance. .
But when the cop stopped me he went over to my passengers side (my little brother was with me) and said something about 60 and asked me for my license, registration and all that stuff. . . when he left I asked my little brother if he heard what he said and he said he heard the same thing as I did. ( in the area we were stopped there is a 60 freeway so I assumed he said that he was watching me since the 60 freeway or something like that) pretty much he wasn’t clear or loud about what exactly I did wrong.
Then I saw the cop writing up the ticket and I was thinking "oh noooo" then he gave me the ticket and just left.
That’s when I saw that the cop wrote me up for speeding 60 on 40 mph zone
(. . . .
I’m not so sure but aren’t they suppose to show you the laser or whatever device they use to measure speed to you. . cuz I honestly had no idea why he stopped me.
Also when I was driving back I saw one of the speed limit signs and the sign said 50 not 40. . i mean i understand I would still be guilty for speeding but would it lower the amount I have to pay.. .
The reason I’m looking to get the cost lower is I’m a student so my financial situation is a little tight, I honestly didn’t think I was driving fast but then again it was on a downhill street. . And since it was my first time getting stopped I hoped It would have been a warning. . . but I hear motorcycle cops are not as lenient as car cops. .
So what should I do? Should I try and get it lowered? or am I exaggerating and should just suck it up??
If any one has ideas or other options I would appreciate it
Keep in mind I had a clean history before this, and I’m a student aka I’m broke. . .
thanks
by the way my little brother is 14 years old so i don’t think the whole weight thing is an issue since he is taller than me. like I stated previously I realized the reason for the citation after the cop left and I saw the ticket which said speeding only
Hey everyone…I need some help.
My boyfriend and I were driving down the freeway on the way to a family function (his brother and wife were following us in their car), when we see a Highway Patrol standing on the side of the road with a radar gun. We weren’t speeding and he waved us down to pullover. We figured something must be wrong with the car (headlight out, etc.) so we pull over and ask whats wrong and he tells us we were speeding 20 miles over the limit!!! We didn’t want to question the officer, but said are you sure you got the right car? He continued to write the ticket and left. If we were in the wrong, I would be more than happy to pay the ticket. But knowing that we were not speeding and that the car following us can confirm we were not speeding, I don’t think we should fork over 0 and a point on our record.
How can I go about fighting this where I don’t look like any normal person off the street that doesn’t want to pay a ticket??
Please help ![]()
When I entered the freeway i squeeled my tires a bit then proceeded on the highway at 75 that had a speed limit of 65. The cop saw everything, when he pulled me over he said that he could write me up for several violations, such as wreckless driving, but only wrote me up for exibition of speed. The ticket states I was doing 30 plus on a posted 45 but I was on the highway. Does the onramp have a speed limit of 45. He has no radar, lasar, or pace on my ticket checked. If i plead not guilty can he bring up the other things when i go to court. This is also my first ticket of anykind. Should the judge offer a plea bargain to drop it to a civil, or do I ask him/her if then can because i really would rather not go to court, and do the offer this plea bargain if i say i am guilty or not guilty. I do not know much about the whole court system, i just really dont want my insurance to go up and have a criminal record.
I was going 80mph (traffic speed) on the I-5 South in California (speed limit 65mph). An Oceanside Police Department officer got on the freeway and pulled me over. I mentioned that I was just following traffic and he replied, "Then you’re just unlucky." I’m wondering if he can even give me a citation even though he’s not CHP, and also how my chances are if I want to contest the citation (given that he is not CHP and that i was following the general flow of traffic).
Thanks.
I got a speeding ticket last night for going 75mph on a 65mph freeway last night in california, even though I wasnt reckless, and normal traffic. How much will the fine be, and should I contest the ticket, I wasnt passing people, people passed me, but I drive a red car. the officer said he was on the HOV(dont know what that means), and I didnt see him, but I swear I couldnt have been going over 72, but I have bigger rims and tirres on my car(3 inches bigger than stock), could I take this to court and win? Thanks.
I was going 75 on a 65 freeway in california
i was told that normally people dont get tickets for going up to 10mph over the speed limit and that if i go to court they wont make me pay for it. information anyone?
How long does it usually take? I got pulled over nearly 3 weeks ago and have been waiting for the fine to come so I can pay it off.
If it helps at all, I’m in the Bay Area, CA. I was pulled over on the 8th of May and received a speeding ticket for doing 89 on the freeway.
I drive home from work and take the freeway everyday here in phoenix arizona. Recently on a freeway they installed photoradar and I noticed it was flashing people going the speed limit. Recently i decided to try an experiment to see how close i could get to getting flashed. I found out it flashed you for going 59mph in a 55mph. Come to find out once i got my ticket it said 66mph!!!! my speedometer is NOT broken. I have NEVER been pulled over by a cop. Legally can i sue Arizona for posting a false speed, and also how can i avoid this ticket. Any advice?
I guess i need to reiterate, MY SPEEDOMETER IS NOT BROKEN. I’ve been driving almost 6 years now and have NEVER gotten a speeding ticket. I drive about 40 miles a day and have never been flashed anywhere else nor have i been pulled over for speeding. If my speedometer was 7mph off you can bet i’d have been pulled over long ago, especially considering i normally drive 5mph over, like every other person.
PSS, this ticket will not be paid. It is under my grandpas name so i will have him tell him he doesn’t know me, that and we will simply ignore it if that doesn’t work.
It appears most of you are missing the point here…..The photoradar ticket LIED. I was going 59mph and i have been cited going 66mph. I checked the website and it states it only takes pictures for people going 11mph over. The point wasn’t technically i was speeding by 4mph, the point is, the system is corrupt trying to get people to pay tickets for speeds they were NOT going.
I was driving home from the movies yesterday around 4am in the morning. Since there were no cars around in the freeway I drove around 80-85mph when all of a sudden I saw red lights behind me. I’ve never been pulled over in my life and I’ve had my license for almost 10 months. The officer asked how fast I was going and I just said "i’m guessing around 80mph." He said speed limit was 65 and he wrote me a citation of 80mph.
Is there anything i should be concerned about? And what do i have to do after i get a speeding ticket for the first time?
Thanks all..
Daughter in law, followed a BLM officers truck from outside of a town in SoCal, on the freeway. They both exited the freeway at the same exit. She pulled into a gas station for gas and he pulled in behind her. He threatened to give her a ticket for speeding even though she was following him and never passed him. He called the local PD and had them issue a ticket. He told her she was lucky he didn’t issue it as it was a federal ticket and much worse. Any thoughts on this? Can she/should she fight this?
I just recieved my second speeding violation and both 20 over on a freeway. How much is this goin to cost me and what are the other affects?
So I finally settled on a 2004 645Ci coupe in lieu of an M3 convertible. Two days before finalizing the car purchase, I got a speeding ticket in my little Corolla on the I-5 freeway going 90mph. I recognize that if I am able to get speeding tickets on my Corolla, speeding tickets on my BMW will be inevitable.
I am looking for a radar detector that can track all radars including laser speed detectors. My budget is no more than 0.
He said I was going 54 in a 40 on a bright sunny day when I had just gotten off the freeway and there were no other cars on the road. I was close to getting home and he was sitting conveniently in a church parking lot. He pulled out and followed me until I got to my street before actually turning his lights on. I’m considering trying the whole trial by written declaration because he was a fairly young guy with a Monster Drink and KROQ sticker on his ticket board; not the type that would want to take time out of his summer to come up with a written account that he’s not even getting payed extra for.
I was going 95 on the freeway, in a 65…. How can I possibly fight this and win?
I want to say I was going with the speed of traffic, because it was at 10:40am on a weekday… and if I wasn’t going with the flow of traffic I would of hit someone long before the cop got me with a lidar scan.
yes I am admitting right now that I did go 95… but how the heck do I get out of it when I go to court?
Hey guys I got a ticket for going 84mph on a 65mph freeway. The police officer left one letter out of my MIDDLE name. I was wondering if I can contest this ticket and not have to pay.
My name for example is: Jason John Cambel
The name on the ticket is: Jason Joh Cambel
Thanks!
I got a speeding ticket going 73 in a 60 this morning on my way to work on the freeway. In my defense, I truly thought it was a 70 mph speed zone during the day, and 60 at night. But it was daytime. What should I do? I heard that I can take a driving class to get the charges dropped, and I am interested in doing that. Still, how should I plead?
If it makes any difference, I live in Texas
Yesterday I was on the freeway and I got pulled over for a speeding violation labeled as "speed contest". I was clocked at 106mph according to his radar. The ticket says I made an unsafe lane change and a speeding violation.
This is the first time I have ever been pulled over for anything. I have never gotten a ticket, even a parking ticket. I am 18 (since September) and I received my license in September of ‘08. Does anyone have any tips on what can be done to help the process, lower the cost of the ticket, what sort of things I should know, and what to actually do. All the cop told me to do was call some number at the bottom of the ticket and the people on the phone will tell me what to do from there.
PS: Please, if you are going to flame me, at least try to include some useful information. I realize that it was a stupid mistake and I am already getting enough crap as it is.
Thanks in advanced.

Thanks Stevie, I realize the risk of identity theft, but this is just where I received the ticket, not where I live. Besides, all of the information that I supplied you could easily get from anyone else’s myspace or facebook page. Thanks for the tip though.
My brother, who’s normally the safest and slowest driver in the world, got caught going a little over 100mph on the 5 freeway near Fresno. Now anyone who’s driven down the 5 knows how easy it is to speed without knowing because it is so open and straight. I feel bad because he was only driving on the 5 to see my graduation up in the bay area. This is his first traffic violation ever, and some people scared me by saying he could get jail time. Is this true? What would happen?
OK heres my story, so i live in the Sunnyvale, California. lately cops have been on the hunt, and they sure got me twice, in two weeks. fml
i was on the beloved 101 freeway the first time, at around 3:40pm and i wasn’t paying much attention till i see a black car come out the carpool line and turn his lights on.
cop pulls me over, he was a young guy (he was pretty nice), goes, "eh i was going 80 when you passed me.. blah blah blah, I said i was sorry and he takes my stuff goes and comes back he said im doing you a favor and only wrote me down for 75 in 65 and tells me that my tail lights are illegal (blacked out), give me the ticket for speeding only and let me go.
So now like 2 weeks exactly later on memorial day on monday where we had a day off, it was nice a nice day, so me and my buddy headed to the beach to meet up with the others who were already there. it was 3:20pm and I was about to get into santa cruz after the windy ass highway 17 , on that last down hill before it branches out to highway 1, I get pulled over again.
This time it was a motorcycle cop who was hiding right behind a over pass, under it on his bike with his reader.
I Saw him with his reader in his hand aiming at all the incoming traffic and stared hitting the breaks, when I drove by him I had already slowed down and set the cruise control to 65 which is the limit. He took off from his little spot and I saw him stay back for a while then he deiced to catch up and once again turn his lights on to pull me over. This time he was a dick, just took my info and wrote me up for 81 in a 65, I had told him that I was just cruising down the hill not in gear (my car is manual), and he goes well thats another violation, but he didn’t write me up for it and let me go. But dam these cops another speeding ticket.
Now my question is this, since these tickets are in different counties, what are my options? Does anyone know Scotts Valley, CA rules and prices for speeding?
Remember that im 18 years old, I drive a 2009 Scion Tc, these are my only tickets since ive been 18.
how many points do we have on are records to start with? How many will these count for?
I haven’t gotton the letters yet, but if anyone could tell me how much this will cost, or if I should fight it or not, please help me out.
Im a collage student, and I hate cops! And having to pay so much its just not F***in fear!! WTF!!
