I was driving home last night. I live in Florida if it matters. I was driving down Federal hwy & the speed limit is 45mph. Then it drops to 35mph. I saw a cop with no lights on sitting in a turn lane facing the opposite direction. It didnt bother me, cuz i was going just above 45mph. But, later down the road i saw lights behind me. He was posted IN FRONT of the 35mph zone & he wrote me a ticket saying i was going 48 in a 35. If he was posted in a 45mph zone, then how could he write me up for going 48 in a 35? I taking this guy to court & fighting it. Im taking pictures & making a little diagram for the judge. If the cop dosent show to court, then good. But, if he does then all hell is going to break loss!!!

Yes I was speeding in the 45mph zone, but that was only 3mph over. SO!!! They dont right tickets for going anything under 6mph over the speed limit.
i dont care if i was "speeding" 3mph over. I got a ticket citation guide, they dont give tickets to people going under 6mph over the limit. it starts at 6mph over which is .50
How would radar pick me up driving pass the vehicle? Does the radar spin & catch me going the other way too?

Alright I am 19 years old at UCI and have never gotten in trouble with the law or received any kind of traffic citation.

So it’s 2:30 p.m. on a Saturday. I’m going southbound on the 405, heading to Irvine with my girlfriend. Driving was smooth, there wasn’t any traffic whatsoever. So I take the carpool lane and drive with the flow of the traffic, going 75. I see a highway patrol car and I drive at the same speed, still along with the flow of the traffic. He drives next to me for a moment and then slows down and because he slowed down, naturally I would pass him. All of a sudden he turns on his lights and pulls me over. During this time, I was thinking, "Okay, I wasn’t even driving that fast…so what could this be?"

So the officer says I was going over the speed limit (65). He goes on and on about how he was "testing" me by seeing if I would pass him or not. He then says he clocked me at 76 mph. WOW. 76 on the carpool lane with NO traffic from both sides front and back!? I asked him, "Was I even driving recklessly?" And he said, "No you were just speeding." It was useless trying to argue with him. I wasn’t going to get off with a warning, that was for sure.

So now I have a speeding ticket for going 76 in a 65 zone. Yeah, I went over the speeding limit. But what the hell, this is just ridiculous.

Alright, so I’m pretty much asking…

What can I expect the fine to be?
Can I get it reduced?
If so, how?
Should I even contest the ticket?

Any information that might help me would be appreciated. I’m just at a lost as to why this had to happen. I’m a college student! I don’t need to be paying for things like this!
Hmm, I can’t seem to find the amount of the fine on the citation.

Alright alright. I get it. I was completely at fault. It’s just ridiculous because others get away with worst and…I don’t know, I just feel like the guy was targeting me from the beginning.

So now I’m wondering what are the procedures to get into traffic school so that I can get a point erased from the record. Or do I have to wait something to come in the mail?

THIS IS IN STATE OF FLORIDA, COLLIER COUNTY:

I received a ticket in December 2008 for speeding in collier county, elected traffic school. I paid the ticket to clerk of courts, completed the school and sent the certificate back in February of 2008. Since then I have been pulled over, but was never told of any issues with my license. Last night however, July 2009, a cop informed me that my license was suspended for failur to make payment on this ticket in collier county back in December.. I freaked! He was so nice, gave me an infraction and even told me that I could sue if it was a mistake… Today I went online and see CLEAR AS DAY on the collier county’s records for their clerk of courts that they received my payment for my ticket, received my notice for electing traffic schoool and recieved my certficate for completion for said traffic…. So now what should I do? The cop told me last night I should hire an attorney and take the ticket to court with my proof, which I plan to do but I have to main questions:

#1) In the meantime, How do I get this record corrected on my license ASAP??? I need to drive to and from work and live my life and while I may have a heavy foot, I paid my damn bill and dont’ want to worry about being arrested or s/t crazy for driving on a suspende license when it was clearly the county’s mistake. Can I call them on MOnday and get it cleared up? Do I need to go there?

#2) I’m GENUINELY interested in suing the county, per the suggest of the cop (AKA the nicest cop on earth). This is so embarrasing and frustrating , not to mentoin scary. I want to know my rights and while this may be more of an attorney question, I curious if anyone else has ever tried to sue and how it turned out?

NOTE: Please, don’t WASTE my TIME and write me crap like "drive better". LOL, no Sh** pal! Answer my direct question or shut the hell up b/c there are NO saints on this earth so don’t waste my time and yours pointing random blame like you ain’t never done sh** wrong in your life. Thanks :)
Also, if I go to the DMV, can I go to any one or must it be in collier county?

Should I go with the "I was distracted" defense
OR
Should I go with the "I wasn’t going the speed you said and you never even asked me where I was going or how fast I was going" defense
OR
OTHER
Some extra details as to why I am fighting my ticket…I was visiting Wisconsin and got a speeding ticket I was told I had to pay the fine on the spot or go to jail.

I proceeded to ask the officer my options and he said:
a) cash
b) check
c) credit
d) go to jail

I gave him my American Express card to pay it and he said "sorry we can’t take that" and I go WTF is flawed with this law!?!?!?

I was short in cash so he let me give that to him if I went and got and met up with him later.

This law defies due process in that I am required to pay the fine as if I were guilty then gives me the option to appeal the law. I am going raise hell in Wisconsin for this law because I feel it is unjust and wrong. I should have the right to pay the fine when I damn well please.

Okay. So I admit I was speeding…80 in a 70 zone. I know the amount of the ticket since Mr. Patrol man so helpfully filled that part in. Problem is…is I had every intention of paying the ticket. He said my court date would be the 20th of august..no prob right? Wrong. Here it is the 14th and I’m filling out m’check cause it’s an out of state ticket and I don’t have time with m’new job to go to court over it. So I’m looking it over to see where to mail this sucker and….oh shit. He has written August 11th as the court date!!! Crap. So now i’m sitting here…wondering what the hell to do.
I’m still planning to mail the damn thing out tomorrow…but my question now is. It’s late. I didn’t appear in court, the money didn’t pass go and they didn’t collect their 0 BY the 11th of August…
so what happens now?

I recently got a speeding ticket. It cost me 250 bucks and a few demerits. I would like to know any*** way to get the officer to give out a warning instead of a ticket.

***I know that some of you will want to say that NOT speeding is a way to not get a ticket. I already know that so dont waste your time telling me. Anyways driving is boring as hell if you allways follow the speed limit.

I was in Mass driving on 95 towards New Hampshire, and its a long 4 or 5 lane highway and it was 10am and there was absolutely no traffic so I was going about 80-85 when the speed limit was 65, but I was keeping up with traffic, and driving at a reasonable and safe speed for the circumstances…I mean a ton of people were passing me…then a cop pulled me over…said I was going 92, which there is no way in hell I was…on the ticket he checked off LIDAR and Estimated…I read that this LIDAR is pretty accurate but I know there is no way I was going 92mph! Should I contest? So since this LIDAR is supposedly pretty accurate so is it even worth my time? Even though he checked off estimated too…any advice will help!

i was apparently going 43 in a 20mph school zone yesterday, although i do not remember my speedometer getting that high.
im thinking about going to court for it instead of just paying it.
my first question is what is my best option as far as insurance goes? this would be the first ticket on my record as i have gotten all my past tickets taken care of. (i believe. one of them i payed, the other one was a driving ticket that i got taken off my record by taking defensive driving)

defensive driving is not an option for me.

all i have for my case is this. You’re driving in Road A, which is a 50mph zone, turn left and continue until you reach a T-intersection. The left turn is where the school zone starts. i made another left at the stop light and got pulled over. but, there’s two things.
one:there is a school zone sign on the opposite side of the road which makes it seem that the school zone for my side of the road has ended. and for two, after you make the second left and you’re still in the school zone, there is one up ahead on the left side of the road, where the light flashes at you. so it makes it confusing.
do i have a snowballs chance in hell to get this ticket LOWERED? not trying to get it dismissed.
or is it a better bet to just pay it off? what options do i have to make this not make my insurance go up?
yeah i know. im just going to pay the ticket. but, imo and in my defense there were no children around, and other than that i was driving perfectly safe.

It says that the officer hasn’t turned it in to the system. And I’m supposed to have 30 days from the day given to me to pay it off? Would the officer get in trouble for this? Can he really take his precious time to turn in my ticket to the system?

I don’t understand.

I have to move to another city in 5 days to and start a new job. I don’t exactly have a certain spare time to go to court myself, pay it, THEN find a four hour drivers class to keep the points off.

It would just be easier for me to pay it off online and then take the online driver’s class that is Florida and my county approved later at night.

I’m bewildered….What should I do?

What the hell did the officer do or not do? UUgh!

I was driving down a hill into a small town in Michigan a few weeks ago. There are signs which say 25 mph and hill braking required. There were 3 cars in front of me. I checked my speed and was braking at 25mph.

There was a police officer wayyyy down at the bottom of the hill in the opposite/oncoming lane before the main intersection.

I was pulled over on the second last day of the month and told I was going over 40 mph but the officer only gave me 5 over with no points.

My husband was driving the car in front of me, and he was braking at 28 mph. Had I been driving over 40 would I not have ended up with my bumper in his backseat?

I have scheduled an informal hearing. Do I have a snowball’s chance in hell? :P

0 is a lot of groceries.
Also the officer wrote the wrong address on my ticket. Is that significant?

I was found guilty of speeding and I'm thinking about appealing. My basis for appealing is that the following:

1. The judge admitted evidence from a LIDAR-LASER device.
2. LIDAR-LASER does not have judicial notice in my state (Wisconsin). Country-wide, LASER does not have judicial notice in 95% of any other state either. However, the judge said it DOES have judicial notice – but he's wrong. I objected to admitting laser evidence without the support of an expert witness on laser and he overruled me.

3. The judge admitted the laser evidence even though the cop testified that he did not test the device for accuracy against any moving objects. I objected as to foundation, but like all my other 20-30 objections in trial, he overruled me.

I think this is a strong basis to show that the judge doesn't know what the hell he's doing and I'd like to appeal. My concern is that appealing is expensive, and I can be forced to pay some costs if I loose (even more if frivolous)
The cost of doing an appeal will run me 0-1,000 if I do it myself. The ticket is for 6 points and a 5 fine. However, my insurance rates will go up drastically.

By the way, I'm a good safe driver. I do not believe I was driving unreasonably fast and I'm confident in my innocense, but that isn't enough. I'm wondering if I can do it based on the info above. Also, this could set a precedent for my state. Laser is bad and this judge was a crook.
