I’m 17 and I caught a speeding ticket tonight. I was going 11 mph over the speed limit. I thought I was driving in a 70 speed zone, but it was 65. How much will my ticket and insurance cost?
I want to contest this speeding ticket I got. I was driving behind a cop, I was going a little fast MAX 70 I was going 75 but not over 80. I was behind the cop he switched lanes, I passed he turns his lights on says I was going 78. On the ticket he put appox 85+ but I asked him "You said you clocked me @78?" he mubbled something really fast about not going to court and that I can still do traffic school so it won’t affect my insurance. I can understand pulling me over for going 8 miles over the limit but to put 85 on the ticket?! This is my first speeding ticket but 8 miles and 15 miles is a big diffence to me and I don’t know how much the ticket is and the cop said under 0, should I just pay and do traffic school or should I go to court?
I looked up some information, I can get the price of the ticket reduced if I go to court, honestly I’m a student I can’t afford much and anything over 0 means I don’t get a full meal until next month. I don’t mind paying the ticket but seriously if 78 means paying 0 and 85 means paying 0 what would you honestly do.
Has anyone in Southern Cal (specifically Victorville area) gotten a speeding ticket for doing 100 in a 70 by Highway Patrol? Just curious how much my ticket will be and how much my insurance will go up. This is my 2nd speeding ticket in less than a year ![]()
I’m 18 years old, I live in Georgia, I’ve had my license for the past year and a half and just got my first ticket for speeding. I went 14 over. 49 in a 35 zone.
I have a court date set a month from now and I’m financially able to pay for the ticket myself.
However, I’m trying to avoid telling my parents about the ticket because they’ve already told me if I got a speeding ticket they’d take my car away.
I’m just wondering if they will ever find out… would the police send information about my ticket in the mail?
I’m just worried about my insurance going up which would obviously make them suspicious. Shiiiit.
Is there anything I can do to ensure they don’t find out?
Or should I just get over it and tell them?
Well I was considering paying it online but I thought maybe if I went to the court date there was a chance they could lower the charges
I guess I’m just going to tell them.
Right now. D:

I am a California resident in LA county. I got a ticket for speeding at around 80mph when the limit was 65. The cop pulled me over and asked for all the essentials. But i could not provide the proof of insurance even though it was in my glove compartment because the place was kinda messy. I found it after the cop left. Anyways, I got a ticket for speeding over 65 and no proof of insurance both marked non correctable. I know i can’t contest for speeding, but can I somehow fix no proof of insurance? If there is a way, what are the steps?
last night i got my first speeding ticket ever.. i was going 15mph over 50mph and i was polite to the cop and everything. the cop said the court is optional and the fine is 5.. i really dont mind paying for the ticket but i just dnt want the insurance to go up.. the car’s under my dad’s name and he’s paying for insurance since i’m paying for my college tuition (yea and i got no financial aid so i’m really struggling with money) i really dont want my dad to be mad about the insurance.. so what should i do? i know i should go in to court and talk to DA, but should i hire a lawyer? or should i just "negotiate" about the ticket? do you think DA could dismiss the ticket if it was my first ticket?
helpfuk advice would be greatly appreciated.. thanks
Hello, I received a ticket for speeding, i fought it via trial by declaration, lost the case. I went to the court today to see if i could still take traffic school. The clerk told me that i have to schedule a court date two months from today to ask the judge in person. from now until two months does my insurance go up since i lost the case? what if i AM allowed to take traffic school? will this just take the point of my record or will it also prevent my insurance from going up? Please give me all the info you might have. Thanks! Also, what if my insurance starts going up starting next month, if i am allowed traffic school, will this make my insurance go back down?
by the way, i am in southern california, and my insurance is Safeco. i have not had any previous accidents in the last 3 years or gone to traffic school in about 4 years
Now i had gotten a speeding ticket for going 57 in a 45. The officer told me to plead not guilty! So i did. He never showed up in court and the judge still without him there i had to plead guilty or not guilty. She was saying something was wrong with the way the officer wrote the ticket but i lost m copy so i couldnt remember what it said. Now i plead not guilty and she found me guilty and said she would let me off with no points and i had to pay 126 dollars! Now on my court paper it says i exceeded the limit by 5 miles and was found guilty. I dont think this was fair at all! I thought u could go 5 miles over so why did i get fined? and the officer didnt show up either. Is this allowed?
oh and will my insurance go up???
um well remind me to never ask a question again people are so harsh here.I was going down a hill. It wasnt like i was passing cars out i had cars in front of me and back but the officer said he pulled me over because! I was caught even though i wasnt the only one and i dont remember going that fast. And i live in Pennsylvania! I just feel like because i was colored person the lady judge gave me the ticket!!! its not fair! what she did to me when the officer didnt show up!!
its my first speeding ticket although i have one other for unsafe lane travel, i just need to know my fine and how much insurance will go up, sources please! thank you! 10 pts for best answer!
I got my first speeding ticket, i know i was stupid going 16 over, the cop had pulled me over, felt bad and wrote my ticket out for 10 over. the ticket said i lost three points. im going to court to see if i can get points reduce and what not. Im only 16 years old and live in wisconsin.
Any advise for court?
At court will the judge know that i was really 16 over, or will all they know is 10 over?
i was also wondering if there is anyway to not have my ticket increase my insurance rate?
if i go to court and i get all my points back, will my ticket not show up to my insurance company?
also, is there any website online where you can look up your own driving record for free?
any police out there able to help? and thank you all so much in advance!
Well I just got pulled over 15 min ago speeding in a 35 mph I was going 49 mph I had a radar which did go off the wall but I was so in to my music, I did admit to the cop that I knew I was speeding. And this is my first ticket in the 2 years I was driving. I drive a mazda speed 6, So I love zzom zoom around (racing)
My question is my ticket can I pay and they can take that in donation. Reason why is beacuse I heard from friends they paid extra and the ticket wont show on insurance or it wont show as speeding ?
just wondering if anybody did that ?

im located in wisconsin.
im 16 years old and had gotten my license july 22nd, ahh!
i got a ticket for going 45 in a 30 a few days ago and i don’t really know what i should do to handle it.
i want to keep it off my record and insurance.
i don’t have a problem paying it and i don’t have a problem taking defensive driving
but i have taken the class alittle over a year ago and don’t know if i am still eligible
also i have heard about the deferred adjudication. but dont know how to go about doing that?
i have also looked at a few attorneys lately and one said he would charge 125 for representing me, but would that include any other fees maybe like court fee or any other fees?
also i will not be able to attend the current set court date.
how can i go about changing the date to a better time?
SO… I got pulled over last night trying to beat my curfew. It was like 2minutes from my house and there was no traffic. I got a ticket for doing a 77 in a 45. Yea, thot it was a 55 and that I was doing 70 but it doesn’t matter does it?? So i have a court date the 17th of march. Is there anyway I can get out of this? I got my license 6months ago. Never been pulled over before or got into an accident and I never speed. This was the only time, and I got caught!!! I’m responsible, I just can’t wait another 9months til I’m 18 to get my license again, really, my bf lives like 30min away and he’s already upset we can barely see eachother. Please help. My dad talked to a cop thats his friends and said if I was 18 I could have been in serious trouble. He thinks my license will be taken away til I’m 18, and I’ll be doing community service, and on a 2year probation!!! WTF?? 77 in a 45 is 22 miles over the speed limit, but I swear I was doin 70, which is below 20?? does that make a difference?? What do I say and do in court? How do I act, play dumb and plead guilty??
ahh, did i mention that there were two cops and that means two witnesses soooo its guaranteed one of them will show up in court!!
What kind of community service?
Does this effect my insurance??
i wasnt driving under the influence or anything like that… it’s just that 20 miles over is concidered a felony here
He charged me with speeding, no insurance, and reckless driving and then put NOTAV below it. I had a radar if that makes any difference. What does NOTAV mean?
according to the ticket i was going 61 in a 45 construction zone. i’m female, 21 in 2 days and reside in missouri.
so..my options are:
1) pay ticket 7.50, get points on record and deal with raised insurance
2) higher an attorney and pay about 0-0 for the attorney + court fees, and assuming i win i don’t get points on record and my insurance doesn’t get raised
OR
3) go to court…and??
from all the stories i heard, it seems like the first ticket they’re pretty lenient about and will usually reduce it, or make you take a class and you wont get the points, etc, etc…so, if i do go to court how should i should i go about? could i just plead guilty, be courteous, explain myself and hope for the best? (could i ask for reduction, be on "probation", or waiver in exchange for taking classes)..or is that just dumb?
On the first day of my vacation I got a speeding ticket in Sarasota, FL. I live in another state, Connecticut and was driving a rental. Do I still have to pay it? The cop told me I could take an online driving safety course to avoid my insurance company from finding out. Can someone link me to the site I need to go to. If I lived there I would contest the ticket in court but since I’m leaving in a week I can’t.
I’m mad about the ticket because I feel like it was an honest mistake and the cop took advantage of me. I had no idea what the speed limit was or how fast I was going and wasn’t in a rush, just following the car in front of me. I was driving in an area I’ve never been in, at night, on a long straight road, without any houses, there were very few posted speed signs, my vision focused forward not at the signs, and my gps navigation said the speed limit was 55, and I was driving a new rental that went faster than my own car.
Btw, the ticket was 60 in a 45, and the fine 6.
Just got my first ticket ever…speeding home to get my son from school, now what?…Isn’t there a class to take so it doens’t go on my insurance and if I take the class do I still have to pay the ticket..I’m so lost, never go a ticket before, was going 84 mph in a 70 mph zone, i know awful…help, any suggestions….
Should I fight the speeding ticket in court or at least get it lowered? help out a broke student!!!?
So I was stopped for speeding today. . . Since I’ve never received a citation before I thought I was going to get a warning since it was the first time I got stopped I was trying really hard to keep a clean record until I reached 23 ( i was going to turn 23 on march. . soooo close) to get insurance under my name so I won’t pay a lot in insurance. .
But when the cop stopped me he went over to my passengers side (my little brother was with me) and said something about 60 and asked me for my license, registration and all that stuff. . . when he left I asked my little brother if he heard what he said and he said he heard the same thing as I did. ( in the area we were stopped there is a 60 freeway so I assumed he said that he was watching me since the 60 freeway or something like that) pretty much he wasn’t clear or loud about what exactly I did wrong.
Then I saw the cop writing up the ticket and I was thinking "oh noooo" then he gave me the ticket and just left.
That’s when I saw that the cop wrote me up for speeding 60 on 40 mph zone
(. . . .
I’m not so sure but aren’t they suppose to show you the laser or whatever device they use to measure speed to you. . cuz I honestly had no idea why he stopped me.
Also when I was driving back I saw one of the speed limit signs and the sign said 50 not 40. . i mean i understand I would still be guilty for speeding but would it lower the amount I have to pay.. .
The reason I’m looking to get the cost lower is I’m a student so my financial situation is a little tight, I honestly didn’t think I was driving fast but then again it was on a downhill street. . And since it was my first time getting stopped I hoped It would have been a warning. . . but I hear motorcycle cops are not as lenient as car cops. .
So what should I do? Should I try and get it lowered? or am I exaggerating and should just suck it up??
If any one has ideas or other options I would appreciate it
Keep in mind I had a clean history before this, and I’m a student aka I’m broke. . .
thanks
by the way my little brother is 14 years old so i don’t think the whole weight thing is an issue since he is taller than me. like I stated previously I realized the reason for the citation after the cop left and I saw the ticket which said speeding only
I’m 24 and have never gotten a speeding ticket before. I was driving my friend’s car, with them in the car with me, and the officer said something about my insurance being contacted. What did he mean, and who’s insurance will it be?
When I entered the freeway i squeeled my tires a bit then proceeded on the highway at 75 that had a speed limit of 65. The cop saw everything, when he pulled me over he said that he could write me up for several violations, such as wreckless driving, but only wrote me up for exibition of speed. The ticket states I was doing 30 plus on a posted 45 but I was on the highway. Does the onramp have a speed limit of 45. He has no radar, lasar, or pace on my ticket checked. If i plead not guilty can he bring up the other things when i go to court. This is also my first ticket of anykind. Should the judge offer a plea bargain to drop it to a civil, or do I ask him/her if then can because i really would rather not go to court, and do the offer this plea bargain if i say i am guilty or not guilty. I do not know much about the whole court system, i just really dont want my insurance to go up and have a criminal record.
My 19-year-old son received his first traffic citation (VC 22348B) for speeding over 100 mph in Kern County, California, while driving to college. We hired an attorney and the original charge was dismissed. The increased fine was surprisingly expensive (,406.00) but now he has only a one point violation (22349A, I think), which we assumed would save us money (insurance-wise) in the long run.
Will reducing the two point violation to a one point be enough to keep our insurance rates down? I think I read somewhere that details of the original citation are still viewable by our insurance company. Is it likely they’ll base their rates on the original charge even though it was formally dismissed? Otherwise, our family’s driving records are squeaky clean.
Will this violation stay on his DMV record for three years or seven? Would a subsequent violation revive the dismissed charge?
Thank you, John, for your thorough answer. It may not matter, but I should correct some of the details. A second count was added and the first dismissed. The new count (a one point violation) is a 22356(b) and apparently we’re at the mercy of the judge or officer as to the price, which somehow added up to ,469.00.
I got a speeding ticket in KERN county. The limit was 70 and I was going at 110.Registration and Insurance were fine. I am 24. Have to make a mandatory court appearance. I just wanted to know if anyone has an idea of how much will I be fined. I was 40 miles over the limit. And can i pay by credit of will i have to pay by debit?
i can come up with the 150 dollars to pay the court with a money order… but will the court or DMV notify my insurance to like go up? (my parents pay my insurance so they will kno.
This took place around quarter to 4 in the afternoon. I saw the flashing lights fr. far away but since I was coming down for a slight hill, I was trying hard to put on my brakes from 35 to 20 mph and the stupid camera caught me goin at 29 mph. I was on my way to class and was jus braking until it could get to 20.
My feeling is that I should jut pay for it – i’m driver in my 20’s and they’ll take advantage of that; I was in a school zone (even though school was done for the day)….what should I do? My only worry is that my insurance rates will go up. I’m not a bad driver and have never been in an accident. HELP
Also, I don’t want to deal with this. I feel that I would rather just pay it and get it over with. I hate these damn cameras…i’m not a bad driver and that one time i was rushing to class, it takes a picture
This won’t be on my record, right? Do i have to take classes? This is in Washington state btw
*** ALSO, one more question: I was driving my mom’s car (under her name), how can i change it and take her name of it and put mines?
This was in the afternoon when school was already dismissed. There weren’t any cars in the school parking lot as I passed by.
