I got my first speeding ticket, i know i was stupid going 16 over, the cop had pulled me over, felt bad and wrote my ticket out for 10 over. the ticket said i lost three points. im going to court to see if i can get points reduce and what not. Im only 16 years old and live in wisconsin.

Any advise for court?
At court will the judge know that i was really 16 over, or will all they know is 10 over?
i was also wondering if there is anyway to not have my ticket increase my insurance rate?
if i go to court and i get all my points back, will my ticket not show up to my insurance company?
also, is there any website online where you can look up your own driving record for free?

any police out there able to help? and thank you all so much in advance!

I am under my Dad’s insurance and I just received my first (and hopefully last) speeding ticket. Will this ticket raise the monthly insurance rate? Will the insurance company (State Farm) even hear of this ticket?

Thanks,
Reece
I was going 23 MPH over the speed limit (53 in a 30 MPH zone). I don’t see a mandatory court date. He just gave me a the ticket and green envelope for the fine I have to pay. He suggested going to the 2 hour driving class or what not to wipe it off my record.

I just got my first speeding ticket yesterday… Going 48 on a 35 speed limit. My question is, will that raise my insurance rate at all? I use State Farm and live in Minnesota. Car is insured under my dad’s name and I’m 20. Also, I’ve had two other tickets before: the first one was for not moving away from emergency vehicle (I was driving on the lane next to two cops while they were pulling someone over) and the second one was a moving violation ("swerving" too much due to my poor vision).
The first one was three years ago.. The moving violation and speeding was this year. But I’ve heard someone told me that the first two won’t go on my record because they were ‘minor’ violations?

I’ve been living in the Fort Lauderdale area in Florida for almost 5 months now, and before I lived in Michigan. While living there, I got 2 speeding (10 miles/hr over) tickets and paid them right away…but I got stuck with points in my driving record and I can’t get a decent insurance rate now. I’ve heard of a course that you can take to reduce/get rid of those points. Does anybody know about this course and if so, do they have it in south Florida?

Thanks!

I was driving from WA to CA and got a speeding ticket about halfway through oregon on 1-5. The cop said I was going 80 at a 60 area. The reason for me speeding was that I-5 kept switching from 65 to 60 mph. I must have mistakenly thought I was in a 65mph area. Also, I later noticed that the truck (not mine) speedometer is off by about 5mph… So while I thought I was going 75mph, I was actually going 80mph. So this is a combination of keeping up with traffic (I was going only a hair faster than traffic), loosing track of the speed limit, and my speedometer being off. Anyways. So I got a ticket, and I really can’t afford a ticket, much less the insurance premium hike up (I am unemployed and very poor right now). The whole reason we even drove those god-awful 1100 miles was to save money. I am more concerned with the ticket going on my record, as this will affect my insurance rate. Any suggestions on how I can reduce or eliminate this ticket? Any advice much appreciated. Thanks. PS. I am otherwise a good driver.
Im not making excuses, Im just being as thorough as possible for those actually interested in offering advice.

And the speedometer being off took me by surprise… Its not my car, so I had no idea. I mean, when he gave me the ticket I was kind of pissed, cuz when he pointed the laser gun at me, I immediately looked down and my speedometer was mid 70s… I assumed he had rounded up, but later on we drove past one of those "your speed is" and noticed that our speedometer was off by about 5 mph…

I was wondering what would cause one’s insurance premium to increase: the demerit points or the speeding ticket itself? I’m asking this question because I just recently got a speeding ticket and the officer who handed me it told me that he wasn’t going to give me any demerit points (just the fine). Will the insurance company increase my insurance rate for just the ticket on my record (without the demerit points)??

Got caught driving 85 in a 70… Cop wrote it for 75 which is a 95 fine and 0 points. Will this effect my insurance rate being that it is 0 points? Even though it says on my ticket that I hid my radar detector, would it be worth it to admit responsibilty / with explanation and try to get off of it? The reason for speeding was there was a big truck tailgating me, and multiple cars in the right lane so I was trying to pass them to let this guy pass me. This is what I told the cop and thats what he wrote on the ticket. I am asking because if it will not effect my insurance rate, I am just going to pay the fine and move on..
Thanks for the answeres thus far…
Some additional details that may help you help me:
1) Happened here in Michigan
2) I just turned 25 (when they say your insurance is supposed to go down)
3) It was a State Trooper

And to the former cop, the guy WAS tailgating me… I got clocked when I was going top speed to get ahead of the dude and around the traffic in the right lane…Just unfortunate to me..

I received my first speeding ticket today for going 76 in a 60 zone on the freeway. First of all, I plan on signing up for traffic school to eliminate this offense from my driving record to make sure it doesn’t increase my insurance rate. If I sign up for traffic school online and receive a certificate before my court date, should I go to court and try to get my ticket lessened?
Also, I plan on completing the traffic school course online, so what do I do next to ensure that my insurance company knows I completed the course and have a clean record?

so im wondering will this make my insurance rate go up. and also is a speeding ticket considered a conviction on my criminal record? PLEASE HELP!!!!

It’s my first time getting a ticket, and the ticket for speeding is 6. Will my insurance rate go up since theres no points if i pay the ticket?

I also think the officer kept the insurance card i gave him what can i do about that?

I have State Farm in Tennessee, and I just want to know if when an agent finds out about a speeding ticket, do they have to raise your monthly insurance rate? Or is it optional?

How does this work?

If this helps.
I’m 18, (driving school once for dismissed speeding ticket, didn’t add points), got a speeding ticket this time for going 90 in a 70 (please don’t criticize) and it added 4 points.

I got a speeding ticket last week. It’s so angering, b/c I’m always a careful driver and I was only 7 months away from having a crystal-clean perfect driving record, which would have drastically lowered my car insurance. I can’t afford the increase in my insurance rates. I’m thinking of pleading not guilty, then when I get to court, quick change my plea to "guilty" if the cop negotiates a deal with me. By the way, I live in a PA suburb outside Philly.

Is this the best approach? What is the best way to handle this problem, without having my insurance rates go sky-high? Should I offer the judge to go to driving school in exchange for no points on my record?(Is this even an option?)I am willing to pay a higher fine if it means it will not have points to affect my driving record, since a higher fine will still probably be less money than the increase that my insurance rates will experience over the next 3yrs. What should I do? I don’t think I can afford a lawyer…how much are they?
realnj97, that sounds like a good idea. I was thinking it would be like that, where I could get out of the points and insurance rate consequences if I pay a heftier fine. I wouldn’t mind paying 0-400 more, because that’ll end up being less $ than the increase in my insurance premiums over the next 3yrs!

To the others: Are you SURE that my rates won’t go up for just one ticket? Almost 3yrs ago, I had a very small "accident"(scratched someone’s car pulling out of a parking space). It costed 60 to repair, only b/c it was a new car(the damage was very minimal)…that is only above PA’s legal cutoff for the accident damage that insurance co’s can use against you. Yet they raised my rates 0/6-mo. period over a 3-yr time, that means I’m paying out 00 extra over 3yrs for an "accident" that costed less than that(only 60).So now you see my concern about the ins. rates.Oh and it was the only thing on my record, other than a 6-10mile-over-limit ticket from 3yrs ago.
To GuessWho: Sorry, but Geico is a no-no for me. Geico charges about 2.5X more than the rates that I’m paying currently with Travelers. Thanks for the suggestion though, but I always extensively shop around for car ins. rates every few months, and Travelers has always been the cheapest each time(although I really wish the rates would be lower). My rates aren’t terrible, but they’re far from good.
To the most recent poster: I don’t normally speed. I was driving through on a main road that used to have a speed limit of 50mph but recently got reduced to 40mph. That’s how I got slammed. I wasn’t going 20mph over, so I guess that works good for me, but it was close to 20mph over.

What I meant by crystal clean record, is that the only other things on my record are a minor speeding ticket(6-10mph over) and a small accident( over the legal cut-off by what is defined as an "accident"…if the damage had been > less, it wouldn’t have been used as a "claim" on my insurance reports). The ticket and accident are scheduled to "fall off" this fall, which will be the 3yr mark. (In PA, minor occurences affect your rates for 3yrs, but major occurences such as DUIs affect your rates for 5yrs)

I got a speeding ticket in N.H. I live in Fla. What are my best options to keep this off my record and avoid insurance rate increase.

I have had a clean record for well over 20 years.

What happens if I just don’t pay it? Will Fla. revoke my license?

Should I contact a Fla. or N.H. lawyer?

Got a ticket going 80 in a 50 (back country road, no one on it). The cop reduced the speed to 59 in a 50. Will the judge realize that the cop has reduced the speed/fine? I had this happen long ago once before and somehow the judge knew and said since the cop had already given me a break, he wasn’t going to. real nice guy. I just don’t know how the judge knew…
thanks for your input guys. and whoa ’s and d e’, calm down. i didn’t intend to speed in the first place. it happens occasionally to everyone. no need to call anyone an idiot.

i don’t intend to just pay my fine because i will automatically get a point on my license and the insurance rate will go up. i’d rather take a chance that the cop won’t show or plead guilty with an explanation and ask for pbj. you should NEVER just pay the fine, even if the cop reduced your speed. i’d prefer that he didn’t anyway because it’s just make the judge go harder on you. my last ticket was almost 3 years ago so i’m hoping he won’t go too hard on me.

I got this speeding ticket on 22nd July,2007 at about 11:50 pm.I was doin 39 mph in 30 zone. The Officer gave me a ticket of and 1 point off my license.I can either pay the fine or go to court.I think the ticket is unfair because 39 is normal, people always do around 50-55 mph on this road(by the way if u live in Prince Georges County area in MD,the route where I was driving was Route 1).If any of you think this is not a big deal and I should go for the trial, what are the possible things I can mention in the court to void the ticket. Also if anyone thinks that I should jsut pay the ticket, please response with appropriate explanation. I ask you to write honestly and not make a mockery of it.If otherwise I will post abuse for that answer,so please only logical answers.
Thanks !!!!!!!!
Does the speeding ticket make your insurance rate go up ?

how much points will i get and will it affect my insurance rate?

help second ticket, got one when i was 17 now im 23 ….

I got a speeding violation back in 08/2007. I just recently got it dismissed like 09/2008. My insurance rate went up dramatically for this year. They claim its still showing up that i have to get it cleared from my record

I was ticketed on I-80 West in Pennsylvania going 90 in a 65 zone. I live in New Jersey. This is the first ticket I've ever received. How many points will end up on my license? How will this affect my insurance rate?

Is there anything I can do to nullify the ticket? I know some states allow first-time offenders to go to traffic school for a day to take care of a ticket. Is Pennsylvania one of those states?

I got a speeding ticket this week, and it says I have to wait 3-4 weeks for the courtesy notice with the bail info. I'm just wondering how soon this might affect my insurance rate (i.e. after the citation is processed?).

P.S. Can you request traffic school to remove a point for speeding?

I'm 17. I got a speeding ticket in February, payed it in March, and finished traffic school this month. I went to take my traffic school certificate this week. Does this mean it is cleared? I live in California? I'm wondering because I'm trying to get an insurance rate and it asked if i ever got a ticket.?
