How can I can get out of a speeding ticket if the police officer wrote down the wrong year of the ticket?
I was pulled over by a PA state cop for speeding. But looking closely on the ticket, the date that I "sped" is in correct. It says "08" instead of "07". So technically I wasn't speeding in 2008. Who do I talk to get this taken of? Preferably not a lawyer because I don't want to pay for anything.
What is the best approach to dealing with a speeding ticket?
I got a speeding ticket last week. It's so angering, b/c I'm always a careful driver and I was only 7 months away from having a crystal-clean perfect driving record, which would have drastically lowered my car insurance. I can't afford the increase in my insurance rates. I'm thinking of pleading not guilty, then when I get to court, quick change my plea to "guilty" if the cop negotiates a deal with me. By the way, I live in a PA suburb outside Philly.
Is this the best approach? What is the best way to handle this problem, without having my insurance rates go sky-high? Should I offer the judge to go to driving school in exchange for no points on my record?(Is this even an option?)I am willing to pay a higher fine if it means it will not have points to affect my driving record, since a higher fine will still probably be less money than the increase that my insurance rates will experience over the next 3yrs. What should I do? I don't think I can afford a lawyer...how much are they?
realnj97, that sounds like a good idea. I was thinking it would be like that, where I could get out of the points and insurance rate consequences if I pay a heftier fine. I wouldn't mind paying 0-400 more, because that'll end up being less $ than the increase in my insurance premiums over the next 3yrs!
To the others: Are you SURE that my rates won't go up for just one ticket? Almost 3yrs ago, I had a very small "accident"(scratched someone's car pulling out of a parking space). It costed 60 to repair, only b/c it was a new car(the damage was very minimal)...that is only above PA's legal cutoff for the accident damage that insurance co's can use against you. Yet they raised my rates 0/6-mo. period over a 3-yr time, that means I'm paying out 00 extra over 3yrs for an "accident" that costed less than that(only 60).So now you see my concern about the ins. rates.Oh and it was the only thing on my record, other than a 6-10mile-over-limit ticket from 3yrs ago.
To GuessWho: Sorry, but Geico is a no-no for me. Geico charges about 2.5X more than the rates that I'm paying currently with Travelers. Thanks for the suggestion though, but I always extensively shop around for car ins. rates every few months, and Travelers has always been the cheapest each time(although I really wish the rates would be lower). My rates aren't terrible, but they're far from good.
To the most recent poster: I don't normally speed. I was driving through on a main road that used to have a speed limit of 50mph but recently got reduced to 40mph. That's how I got slammed. I wasn't going 20mph over, so I guess that works good for me, but it was close to 20mph over.
What I meant by crystal clean record, is that the only other things on my record are a minor speeding ticket(6-10mph over) and a small accident( over the legal cut-off by what is defined as an "accident"...if the damage had been > less, it wouldn't have been used as a "claim" on my insurance reports). The ticket and accident are scheduled to "fall off" this fall, which will be the 3yr mark. (In PA, minor occurences affect your rates for 3yrs, but major occurences such as DUIs affect your rates for 5yrs)
I got 2 points for a speeding ticket…when do they wipe off my driving record completely?
Also its my first ticket. Should I hire a lawyer for 0 to blow off the points ? Or do they wipe out on their own ? What if I get another ticket before these points wipe out?
Money is tight but I dont want to lose my license ever.
Vital mistakes on California speeding ticket? Laywers?
I lost in court this week over a speeding ticket. My biggest argument was that the Officer falsely recorded the Speed Limit of the Place of Violation.
He did not use radar to get my speed and wrote exactly 20 miles over.
I was not speeding, and was given a breathalyzer test(which I passed) which makes me suspect I was originally pulled over on suspicion of drunk driving.
When asked, the officer could not recall the speed limit of the area. He could not recall if he gave me a breathalyzer test. He falsely states what he thinks the speed limit could have been.
I have been told on yahoo answers that I can not win this by filing an appeal.
Is this true, laywers? Can I beat this with assistance? I did not ask nor was I offered traffic school. Can I at least try to get traffic school through appeal?
This is very frustrating, and I feel like I wasn't given justice. I was guilty before I walked through that door because of my past record. The cop lied. Yes cops lie too.
This takes place in California, so please only information that pertains to this area.
In response to STEVEN,
Yes, what I said is true. Which is why I am very shocked with the outcome, and am willing to go through the ordeal of an appeal and am willing to hire a 00 lawyer IF I have a chance of getting justice in this case.
An important thing to consider is my driving record. I have had many non-speeding traffic violations. But that aside, this case was a weak one. Judges tend to be side with Officers(with good reason most of the time), but this was just ridiculous. I couldn't how biased he was towards me. It was like being on the O'Reily Factor when I was telling my side of the story. Interruptions and everything.
Best way to handle a speeding ticket in North Carolina?
Wife recieved a speeding ticket for going 17 over in a 55mph zone in North Carolina. Officer told her her license in NC would be suspended and now has a mandatory court appearance. We live about 8 hours from NC. We are contemplating having a lawyer stand in. She is 28 and has never recieved a traffic ticket ever. I also heard you can send a letter in to the DA asking for a reduction to 9 over and they will often give the reduction along with a fine.
Speeding Ticket Validity QUestion? (Law Enforcement or Lawyers only please)?
I was cited for doing 75 in a 55 (I thought it was still a 70, but understandably breaking the law). The Highway Patrol who gave me the ticket filled out the ticket but neglected to actually check the box for speeding. THe directions explicitly state "Check one of the following" in bold red. However, the officer filled out the speed difference "Proceeded to go--75 in a --55-- zone. and listed the radar gun in his notes. SO is neglecting to check the offense a legitimate way I can get off the ticket in court. The ticket doesn't actually say I was speeding.....
Thanks for any help.
Yeah he was specific, but he never actually cited an offense. The ticket doesn't read out any offense so they would have to get the cop to come to court. Luckily they didn't come last time. I
I'm not taking it to court solo, I have a lawyer. Think I forgot to mention that.
I need a good lawyer that can get me off a speeding ticket?
I have had several tickets. I will lose my job if I get another one. I was doing 98 mph in a 70 mph zone. It is in republic county kansas. I hope someone knows a quality lawyer that can make this ticket go away. I will lose my job and mabye my liscense if I cant get this fixed. I sold my z28 and I am buying a small 4 cyl car. Let me know if you know someone that can help.
I had a lawyer that would take care of any ticket I had 10 years ago. I have moved since then. So I know that a GOOD lawyer can take this matter in His hands and Make it go away. I have had it done before, but not in this area. There is a difference between a Good lawyer and a Lawyer. The difference is how hard they work. I want a hard working Guy that can get results. I know it is foolish to think I can point to a name in a phone book and get equal results as I would getting a refferal to an expierenced Lawyer. Money is no object. My job is important.
Speeding Ticket Out Of State?
I got a speeding ticket in N.H. I live in Fla. What are my best options to keep this off my record and avoid insurance rate increase.
I have had a clean record for well over 20 years.
What happens if I just don't pay it? Will Fla. revoke my license?
Should I contact a Fla. or N.H. lawyer?
California Speeding ticket help! (orange county)?
All right, I got a speeding ticket in San Clemente on my way to a friend's beach birthday party. The cop said I was going "60+" on a posted 35 construction zone. In the space to write what kind of radar and the radar serial used he just crossed that out. Does that mean he gave me a citation without any proof of wrongdoing? Also, I KNOW I wasn't going that fast. There was a major curve in the road ahead and there was also a turn-in for where I was getting off. I know I'm going to have to fight it because I had another ticket about 6 months ago and went to traffic school for that one so they won't let me do that again.
Oh, another major bummer about it is that it was the night before my 18th birthday and the ticket was at 11:05 pm so now one of my parents will have to come with. Man, I hate tickets and police.
What should I do to fight it? A lawyer (Kinda expensive) just try and wing it myself or just plead guilty and pay for it? Give me some advice/help.
I got a huge speeding ticket in Columbia County, NC. It’s well 15 over the speed limit. What should I do?
So should I get a lawyer or not? The ticket doesn't say reckless driving it's just speeding. Would they declare that as reckless driving if it wasn't even on the ticket? I have to go to court and I have no option. I just need some advice...
I got a speeding ticket!!! It’s my first one! Please help!! What are my options!?
I got my first speeding ticket the other day ago. My record had been squeaky clean until then. The ticket was in Lenexa, KS. I was going 99 in a 65 mph zone. I have already payed the ticket online, but the court date isn't until February 3rd. Is it true that I could pay an extra 0 and get the ticket removed from my record according to Kansas law? How would I go about doing this? Do I have to have a lawyer? I really don't have much money and am actually in debt so I'm trying to get this off my record and my record back to the way it was the cheapest way possible. What other options do I have in Kansas? PLEASE HELP SOON!!!
Got a speeding ticket, can I beat it?
I am 25, just got myself a nice sports (GT) car, a G35 coupe....anyways, had it for two weeks now, and yep, got my first speeding ticket ever.
It's 1:30am in Toronto, and I am driving on the Gardiner Express; it's the main highway through downtown Toronto. All other highways around Toronto have a speed limit of 100, but for some reason the Gardiner is 90. I get a ticket for doing 110.
The cop comes up to me, and says "Nice car. Here's your ticket" Do I need to hire a lawyer to beat this, or can I do it myself?
I want to fight it because in Ontario we get demerit points for every offense we get, and being 25 and having a nice car, I don't want my insurance to go up.
How much is a traffic ticket that says “faster than speed limit?” in broward, florida?
I got a traffic ticket but the officer only wrote "faster than the speed limit" and didn't write the speed I was going. I don't know how much do I have to pay....I am trying to find out if paying the ticket and going to school to erase the points on my license would be cheaper than paying a lawyer to fix it.
I need advice on a Virginia reckless speeding ticket?
I got a reckless speeding ticket in the state of Virginia. I was going 24 miles over (79 in a 55). This is a class one misdemeanor in the state. I CANNOT have this on my record, I am only 19years old!
I am 19, a college student at a small but good college (average high school GPA 3.7). The college is local to the court. I got a 3.2 or 3.4 GPA last semester, I am active in student government in my university. I have a job, which is actually why I was speeding, trying to race home to be on time. I was visiting friends about 3 hours away, and needed to be home before work at 4pm. I have never had an traffic violations, or any run-in with the law before.
Do I need a lawyer, or is this enough to defend myself (I'm in college, and therefore broke)? Any stories of your reckless driving ticket court date? ANY advice at all is welcome.
This is my first violation.
I do face jail time, by the way. A class one misdemeanor in VA has a possibility of one year in jail.
I have check this answers, and this is NOT a regular speeding ticket. This is a CLASS ONE MISDEMEANOR in the state of Virginia. This means I will have a cirminal record. This is my main concern, not my fine, points, or insurance. I will take a higher fine to not have a criminal record.
I got speeding ticket and i need a lawyer !?
How much you think a lawyer is going to cost me? It wasn`t criminal speed, just speed above posted, but that is acording to a cop. I was just trying to outrun his high beams.
I wasn`t speeding until he got his high beams on. He was following closely, blinding me, and it was 6 am, still dark outside. I also had lights from oncoming traffic in oposite lanes, so i sped up to avoid his beams, so i don`t hit someone or die myself. He freaking did that on purpose. I am proffesional cdl driver, and i don`t drive over the limit in order to keep my licence. He did this with intent to give me a ticket.
What should I do for my speeding ticket?
A cop said that I was speeding to 44MPH in a 35 MPH zone and he gave me a ticket. What should I do now?
+ Get a lawyer?
+ Or just come to the court by myself
This is my first ticket ![]()

I just got it on Friday. And how long will they keep sending them. I don't need them I already know what lawyer I will have to represent and it's quite annoying. Can I request from somewhere not to have them send me any mail?

I live in NC. I d a speeding ticket. I hired a lawyer. After te court date, I recevied a letter from the lawyer stating I recevied a prayer for judgement which in NC is a freebee to be used every 3 years. I recently received my insurance renewal wich showed the ticket. I got a copy of my driving record. The record shows the ticket was reduced. I contacted the lawyer, but have nto heard back. What do I do.
The DMV stated it was reduced. They looked at he court record, while I was there a the DMV and was able to view it myself.
The DMV told me to have the lawyer reopen the case
What happens if you get a speeding ticket in NC that’s white copy for going 74 in a 55 on a open country high?
If you do volunteer work, make good grades, and this is your first time getting a ticket? Also if there is no price listed what does this mean and should you seek a lawyer? Can your license be taken away?
Fight the speeding ticket or Hire a Lawyer?
I got a speeding ticket about a month ago in Nassau NY for 80 mph in a 55mph zone on my motorcycle. I have a previous parking ticket it and I'm currently doing community service for a petit larceny charge. Tomorrow is my appear in court date because I did not send the ticket in. I was told by my lawyer that will cost 0 to plead not guilty and get a new court date but do you think that I will be able to plea bargain myself down to a similar charge my lawyer would fight for or should I hire the lawyer?
is tomorrow just a court date to plead or if the cop dosnt show up may it get dropped and will i be screwing myself by telling them i have a lawyer and the cops not there?
How to dismiss a speeding ticket if I was going 25 miles above the speed limit?
Ok, I was driving 96 on a 70 mile-per-hour free way. My ticket says that I can't take a defensive driving class b/c I was going more than 25 miles above the speed limit. But it's my first offense, so do I still have chance to take defensive driving class? What should I do? and also, will my insurance go up too? Thanks!
I don't plan on fighting the ticket, b/c I know I was speeding...breaking the law. I was going home from college for the first, I guess I was too excited. I'm ashamed about how fast i was driving, but i really don't have the 0, being a college student. Do you think if I just go to the judge and plead guity really sincerely, he/she will reduce the fine?
Well, I prefere not to get a lawyer, b/c i know i was wrong. Why fight it if I even know that i have no chance of winning? And yes, i know i should slow down, and trust me, i DEFINATELY will in the future. I've been driving a couple of years, and never got a ticket until now. Also, thanks to some of you that really gave me some good answers, and to the rest: I know I'm wrong, I know it's selfish, I'm sorry about what I did, I understand this is a good lesson for me. but this is not a ethical question.
speeding ticket?
my daughter got a speeding ticket 83 in a 65 zone. if she goes to court without a lawyer will they reduce it. if not how many points will go on her license.
