Hi, I am a junior operator in Massachusetts (17 years old, going to be 18 in 20 days) and last night I was pulled over for speeding. The officer issued me a 0 ticket stating that I was traveling 59 MPH in a 30 MPH zone. The ticket says it was clocked on radar, but it also says he estimated my speed to be between 55-60 mph. I was travelling in an area where the speed limit was not posted, and about 1/4 mile from where I was stopped, the speed limit is 50. This is also an area I am not familiar with (i live 40 miles away from where I was stopped). As far as I am aware, my speed never approached more than 40 mph before I was pulled over. My question- do you think i can win the appeal? Also, If I am convicted after appealing, and I am 18 years old when I am convicted, will I lose my license for 90 days as a junior operator, or pay the ticket like an adult would have to?

In August, I got a 0 speeding ticket and I felt it was unfairly issued, so I requested an appeal. On November 13th, I was notified by mail that my requested had been scheduled for December 11th. Long story short, I have a prior commitment on this day that is worth far more than 0 and I want to just go ahead and pay the ticket. I live in Massachusetts.

How do I go about doing this at this stage? Will I be fined for changing my mind?

Got a letter from New Hampshire about not paying a speeding ticket I got there. I am licensed in Massachusetts. The letter has the address that is on my driver’s license, but now I use a PO box to receive my mail. When I respond to this letter I need to sign my name and write down my address.

Not trying to break any laws but I am curious if I put down my PO box as my address do you think it will increase the chances that my speeding ticket will never find its way to my Massachusetts driving record? Because the speeding ticket has my old address listed and the old address was the one entered into New Hampshire’s DMV computer system. Is it possible that because the ticket is associated with an old address the computers might get confused and not associate the ticket with me?
The date of birth on the letter is incorrect, how will that affect things? I hope there are not duplicate tickets filed on me (one with correct date of birth and one with incorrect one).

I know what your thinking, it has to be there but 4 other people have looked at it and we all found there is no price on my speeding ticket. I was going 83 mph in a 65 mph zone. I was passing someone who moments before had me stuck driving right next to a tractor trailer truck, which makes me incredibly nervous so I wanted to go around them. Now I plan to appeal and I’m up for any tips on how to make this thing disappear. The officer said he lessend it to 75 mph in a 65 mph zone but 83 is written on my ticket but so is 75+. Also he was using a radar however on my ticket he checked estimated. He also did not write down the price of the ticket or have me sign it. I’m doing lots of research and plan to use laws to get this appealed instead of just relying on a sob story. Also if it helps this ticket is in Massachusetts.
Common Sense : If I can’t appeal the ticket why did the officer tell me I could and it says it on the back.

I live and am licensed in MA but got a speeding ticket in NH. I believe NH and MA share information so it will be treated as if it happened in Massachusetts. I am on a family plan with Amica car insurance, does anyone know if they will raise my rates? It is my first traffic violation of any kind.

Will I lose any discounts like safe driving discount? I heard Massachusetts has a law where the first speeding ticket does not add insurance points? Is this true? If it is true, can Amica still raise your rates if they want to?

Thanks

Let’s say you got your first ever speeding ticket in Massachusetts. Accord to MA RMV no points get added to license since it’s your first offense. But then let’s say you moved to another state(which doesn’t give you a free pass for first offense). Would you start out with points in that state? If so, how many? For example would if your MA ticket was for 20mph over limit, which in the new state might be considered reckless driving?

Thanks

Please ONLY answer if you have at least ATTEMPTED to get a speeding ticket appealed in Massachusetts. Were you successful? What were the circumstances surrounding your case?

If you want to rant about how you think people should just "man up" and pay speeding tickets, this is not the place for it. Thanks.

My sister got a ticket in Gilford county North Carolina,87mph in a 65mph she lives in Massachusetts. They want her to fly down for a court date because it was over 81 mph. Is ther any way around this. Don’t care about the fine , It’s just a pain to fly back.

the cop told me if i didnt get in any trouble between now and the time i go to the hearing that he would dismiss the ticket. the hearing wont be scheduled until july, can i still go for my license in april??
this is in massachusetts.

ok scratch that about the gas tax, i need to know about the massachusetts speeding violation head injury surcharge (if thats how u spell that word). and i still need the sources and everything. THANKS

I got a speeding ticket on August 1st, and mailed in my hearing request on August 18th. I haven’t yet heard back from anyone telling me when my hearing date is. While I know this is Massachusetts and things are far from efficient, I’m wondering about how long this would take for me to find out, just so I can make sure something doesn’t happen with the mail and I miss it.

I have a speeding ticket that was issued back in 2002 and am wondering if this will have any bearing on auto insurance when I purchase a new policy in the near future.

TIA
I’m from Massachusetts, btw

I leave in MA and have not had a speeding ticket in years. I am trying to keep my driving record pretty clean and I am going to be honest…I just cannot afford to pay that ticket right now. So is it worth me appealing even I was guilty. Do judges usually reduce tickets, and are there any court costs associated with traffic court in Massachusetts. It was not a statey btw it was a local in Worcester MA.

I should mention, I’m from Massachusetts.

I live in NH and got a speeding ticket in Massachusetts today. It’s a hundred bucks and I can’t really afford it. Obviously I know if I got pulled over in Mass again I’d be in trouble, but would the NH police know about it at all?
How could Mass suspend my liscence? I live in NH. Unless you’re just mixed up.
Fozzy: First of all great name there. Secondly, you don’t know any circumstances, so please take your judgemental attitude elsewhere. Ask yourself what in your life you are lacking.

Ok. I got a ticket in February. Doing 50 in a 30, 0 fine, which is half of what it should have been. Basically, I’m going to court this Thursday and I need to know which stance I should take. The policeman asked me what I thought I was doing and I hit the nail right on the head. Being under 18 at the time, my license is on the line. This all happens in Massachusetts, if that matters. My stances are as follows:

1) I really need my license this summer. I’m going to college this year, and I’ve got 2 jobs and 2 younger brothers that I drive around to sports, etc, as well as myself. I’m in several extracurriculars at school. Mainly, I need it for my job, to make money to survive at school next year.

OR—

2) The cop was sitting at the bottom of a hill in a suburban neighborhood. The houses are setup in a decline, and there were cars in the driveways, hiding the policeman and his car.
