I want to contest this speeding ticket I got. I was driving behind a cop, I was going a little fast MAX 70 I was going 75 but not over 80. I was behind the cop he switched lanes, I passed he turns his lights on says I was going 78. On the ticket he put appox 85+ but I asked him "You said you clocked me @78?" he mubbled something really fast about not going to court and that I can still do traffic school so it won’t affect my insurance. I can understand pulling me over for going 8 miles over the limit but to put 85 on the ticket?! This is my first speeding ticket but 8 miles and 15 miles is a big diffence to me and I don’t know how much the ticket is and the cop said under 0, should I just pay and do traffic school or should I go to court?
I looked up some information, I can get the price of the ticket reduced if I go to court, honestly I’m a student I can’t afford much and anything over 0 means I don’t get a full meal until next month. I don’t mind paying the ticket but seriously if 78 means paying 0 and 85 means paying 0 what would you honestly do.
I got a ticket on southbound I-5 for 106mph in a 70mph on the way home from San Fran. in Fresno County. He wrote me up for 22348(b) and got me with radar. I live 288 miles away in Riverside county. Officer said it will most likely require a mandatory appearance. I did a bit of research and here’s what I found: 2 pointer, no traffic school, possible 30 day license suspension, 760.00 fine. Should I hire an attorney and what can an attorney do for me? How much should an attorney cost? Or, should I just pay it and take my lumps? I have no tix or accidents on my record (36 months).
California
So, I was going 81 mph on a 65 mph freeway in the Bay Area in California. I got pulled over for the first time and got my first speeding ticket. Few weeks later, I got a letter with four options. The options are:
*Proof of Correction [{content}]
*To Pay Your Ticket (Bail Forfeiture) [3.50]
*Request Court Appearance [3.50]
sub option-Arraignment (hear my charges, enter plea, advisement)
sub option-Court Trial (contest the citation)
*Traffic school [7.50]
I don’t really know which one to choose, as I want to lessen/not pay the amount and I also want the point gone from my record. It wasn’t like I was going to go 81mph the whole time, just that moment and no one ever goes 65mph on the left side lane. Plus there were very few cars on the freeway on that night, and was clear skies. I felt like the cop was only trying to fill his daily quota, because he didn’t really say much to me, just did the procedures and left in a hurry.
Me: license since 17, is 20 years old now. First ticket ever
I was in a suburb of Chicago going down a residential street about a month ago that had one of those digital machines alongside the road that records speed. It told me I was going over the limit of 20 (I was going maybe 25 to 30) and it flashed as if it took a picture of my plate. I expected to get a ticket in the mail which I would either pay or just do traffic school for but I haven’t gotten anything in the mail and I’m worried that I got a ticket that was lost in the mail and will be in trouble for not paying.
I called the police department of that suburb and they said they don’t have any machines like that, but I still worry that maybe that person was misinformed and I heard that not paying a ticket results in a warrant. I’m very worried about this. Any other ways to look into if I actually got a ticket?
Hello, I received a ticket for speeding, i fought it via trial by declaration, lost the case. I went to the court today to see if i could still take traffic school. The clerk told me that i have to schedule a court date two months from today to ask the judge in person. from now until two months does my insurance go up since i lost the case? what if i AM allowed to take traffic school? will this just take the point of my record or will it also prevent my insurance from going up? Please give me all the info you might have. Thanks! Also, what if my insurance starts going up starting next month, if i am allowed traffic school, will this make my insurance go back down?
by the way, i am in southern california, and my insurance is Safeco. i have not had any previous accidents in the last 3 years or gone to traffic school in about 4 years
I was pulled over and was clocked doing 56 on a 40 zone. This is my first ticket ever, I am 31 years old. It seems that the officer didn’t like me since he put my speed 16 miles over the speed limit wherein, on his discretion, he can lower it down if he wanted to. I am driving a modified car and was even asked to pop the hood, he said he will let all my modifications slide but not my speeding.
I do not intend to fight the ticket since it will only cause more trouble in my opinion. What should I do? Should I wait for my court date before I settle this citation? Can I just go to court before the stated court date and pay/settle everything?
Say if I wait for the court date and try to contest the ticket, will it be worth it?
How much fine am I looking at if I plead guilty? How much does traffic school cost?
On the CODE AND SECTION part of the ticket it says 22350 and he wrote down the letter " L " as well and encircled it. What does the letter " L " mean?
I received a speeding ticket on the 14 freeway right before I-5. Now I admit (just between you and I) that i was going 70mph but NOT 86… what can i do? should or could i contest this ticket or have the fine lowered i am a single mother of a one year old, i am going to school(respiratory therapy btw), and i just don’t have 3 to pay. i do want to pay it all at once and attend traffic school. Can i explain to the judge my circumstance and have the fine lowered? also can i request a change of venue so i can go to the courthouse near my house? thanks!
BTW i HATE the 14 freeway! i was going 70 and still had people swerving around me as if i wasn’t going fast enough! just venting ![]()
BOB T …. that’s what i was thinking too, because i asked him(the cop) how he knew for sure it was me like i said i was doing 70, i had my daughter and two year old sister in the car so i am NOT about to be speeding, you know? I asked him how he didnt know that it was the car next to me because traffic was very heavy, BUT he didn’t even answer me!
BTW does it matter what the highway is like? because i was coming down a hill as well?
Here’s the situation:
In Jan 2009, around 1pm, high noon, weekday, EMPTY road, no traffic, no cars parked, very wide two way road, 4 lanes total, I was driving down a long winding rode in Daly City, CA, Guadalupe Canyon Expressway, speed limit 45mph going around 45-50 as I go down the hill, I see the police officer on his bike on the left side like 30 feet away. Naturally, I slow down and approach the stop sign coming up, full stop naturally. As I finish my stop, the cop, who was to the left of me, immediately pulls up behind me, and says I was speeding up in a school zone?! He then writes a speed limit of 50mph on my ticket. Naturally I am very pissed.
I got to court and the judge says I am not eligible for traffic school because I had a stop sign citation earlier last year….he asks me if I want to settle or fight it. I opted to fight. Was that a good idea? I have no exp fighting an officer in court. Anyways, my court date is in June 2009, hoping that he either doesn’t show or his memory is fuzzy.
need some help! What should I do? On the ticket he says no radar used…if that helps….
thanks guys any suggestions are appreciated!
i know I slowed down to 25 within the school zone, i was going down fast but no so fast that it was dangerous….but he said that I was speeding up in the school zone??? what do u guys think?
I got my first ever speeding ticket (driving 8 months) doing 47 in a 35mph zone.
do i plead guilty or not guilty? if i plead giulty cant i just pay a fine and go to traffic school to get the points off my record?
i work for a company and drive the van so i dont want to get fired…
BTW i did not get it in the company van. it was in my girlfreinds car.
I live in NY state also.
i was going down a hill and i geuss i just did not break and i was going over the limit.
This is Kelly from CA. For the first time I was cited with a traffic ticket for speed driving. Suggest me a couple of California Approved Online traffic school courses to dismiss traffic ticket and even to improve my driving techniques.
Alright so the background on this is i was doing 88 in a 65 and my radar failed to go off, as i saw the officer begin to pull out, i went to the right lane began to slow down, and took my radar off. The officer and me had a nice chat and he lowered it to 85 in a 65 so i wouldn’t get as many points. Now today i am gonna call the court and talk to the attorney. I am going to plead no contest and ask for traffic school , if they reject this offer can i still plea not guilty?
P.S. I don’t want to hear guilt trips or speeding is bad i will remove your comment, i race cars for a living and am certified i know what i am doing.
Alright because some of you say save it for the track, its a 500hp car that can do around 156 so 85 is safe. Second thruways were built in ny for motorist to be able to do 100 safely that is why no bend is less than 1 mile long with out a bunch of signs. Third if you have ever been on the autobahn or have a license in germany you would know there is a set rules for driving unlike the rules here in the state were all you fat slow drivers that sit in the fast lane doing 65, when every few 100 yards there is a sign saying slow traffic stay to the right. Stop being a hypocrite saying don’t do it cause i know you have before to the question is about changing a plea answer the question and don’t leave your bs 2 cense because it is following on deaf ears.
i got a traffic ticket yesterday for speeding. I got another one 14 months back and completed traffic school . But in CA I cannot go to traffic school twice in 18months. Is there any way I can delay the ticket to go to record and complete the traffic school so that i don’t get it on my record ?
what are my best options?
I’m not eligable for traffic school, lets just get that out first. I got a speeding ticket at 10pm going 63 in a 40. I dont feel like i was driving that fast, however i just got a new SUV about 3-4 weeks prior and it never feels like your traveling that fast; previously i drove a sedan. on top of that it accerates effortlessly. I dont usually drive in this area, although it is by my house so i guess it doesnt matter. In any case, i guess thats still speeding. The officer pulled me over and honestly..i didnt know why. He ticketed me but he marked "civil court" on it. He also failed to mark that he used a radar to clock my speed. Now im not one to try to get out of things and im sure to a degree i was speeding if he says so but, does this give me any upper hand, or leway?? Anyways i guess my main question is…. what it going to happen tommorrow when i walk in court am i being tried as a civil ticket at criminal speeds??? Maybe someone can clarify?
I got a speeding ticket, but I have never gotten one before this one. Would it be better to just pay it off and do the traffic school, or to take it to court? I live in FL and was going 57 in a 45.
I live in CA, and received my second speeding ticket in less than a year. I went to traffic school for the first one, but now that I have my second, will they let me go to traffic school again? First of all, is it even legally possible? Secondly, is it at all probable?
Open QuestionShow me another »
I recently attended a funeral out of state and received a speeding ticket in New Mexico, 87 in a 75. Now, today, I got another ticket. This time for an illegal u-turn. The sign was there but I never saw it honestly. I live in Florida. I know that i can get traffic school, but can I get it twice. Which is worse on your drivers license and insurance. I am also planning on moving to Chicago at the end of December. Will this make any difference on my drivers license or insurance?
I was driving on a boring long stretch around Weed California. There was a cop in front of me and I thought if I were behind him I would be safe from a speeding ticket. The cop soon lost me, he must have been driving at least 90 in a 70mph zone. I eventually caught up to him and resumed driving at about 85mph. He slams on his brakes to get behind me and of course pulls me over. Can he do that!!!! He was speeding WAY faster than I was. I felt like a gullible idiot. So my court date is coming up and this is my FIRST ticket in my ten years of driving. Should I contest it and argue that he was going faster? Or should I just pay the dumb thing and take traffic school?
I live in California, and just got my first speeding ticket, I am 17, I was doing 80 on the free way where the limit is 65.
My parents pay for my insurance, so i really dont want it to go up because they will be furious. If i go to traffic school will the ticket go on my record and bring up the insurance?
And does anyone know how much the fine will be?
i live in sacramento, california and i just got a speeding ticket this morning on my way to school. im a college student and my financial situation isn’t doing very well so i want to do anything i can to lessen my expenses. i know ill have to pay the ticket fine because i was clearly speeding (61 in a 45), but i already did traffic school last year so im not eligible anymore and my insurance rates will most likely sky rocket.. this is what kills me. i hear people can go to court and beg for community service to keep the POINTS OFF INSURANCE records; is this possible? and in my situation is it likely that i will be granted the opportunity? and if so WHEN do i request for it, during the INITIAL PLEA or during the TRIAL itself where the police officer is present? i know this is a lot of questions, but this is a very serious problem for me so i would like sincere and experienced people to answer my questions please. thank you in advance for any help you can offer.
i can pay the fine pretty much no problem, but the insurance rates are whats going to kill me. i need some way out of getting those points on my record to keep my insurance rates the same.
I got my ticket in California and it’s the first time I ever got a speeding ticket. I got a ticket for going 80 in a 65mph according to him. However the cop didn’t have a radar gun and I wasn’t clocked. He said he just followed me and looked at his own speed limit and it was 80mph. I have yet to receive my notice in the mail and it’s been more than 2 weeks so I’m not sure what my options are. My main concern is that if I fight the ticket and lose, can I still do traffic school to take the point off my record? Does anyone have a link or resource that can help explain?
Thanks a bunch!

I was caught speeding at 75mph on 65mph limit on my motorcycle. The ticket amount says 0. I’m a student and can’t afford that fine and wondering if I can request someone to reduce that fine. This is my first ever traffic ticket though.
I don’t wanna fight that ticket (I know I wasn’t going less than 65mph) but I want to appear in court without jeopardizing the traffic school option. Only and only to reduce that fine. If I pay online then I had to pay the entire amount and (I heard) if I appear in court then judge might not allow me to attend traffic school (if found guilty).
Do you think I should take my chance by selecting “Appear in court” option?
I got the ticket near Crompton, CA. I was going on highway 91.
I received my first speeding ticket about 3 weeks ago. THe cop has it on radar…48 in a 35. My court date is in two days, and i don’t know what to say. Do i plead guilty since it is on radar, or do i plead no contest?? Or try to opt for traffic school? Any suggestions would help.
I got a speeding ticket last night going 67mph in a 50mph zone. I have had a speeding ticket before about 8 months ago and went to traffic school so i cannot go to traffic school again for another 4 months. My options are either paying the full 241 dollars or going to court. If i go to court and plea NO CONTEST, could the points be taken off of the ticket? I am completely ok with paying the full 241. I just hope that i can get my points taken off. Will pleading NO CONTEST in court do this? Thank you all for the answers and please, i know i shouldnt be speeding. I dont need anyone reminding me about the law and how important it is to obey it. I just need help with this question. Thats all.
Thanks.
First of all, please only answer if you have experience with this.
Ticket: Infraction
Correctable violation: No
Code & Section: 22348(b)vc – speed over 100+ MPH (reckless, verbal)
Speed Approx: 103
Max Spd: 65
I really can’t deny it, I was speeding. The officer told me I could possibly lose my license temporarily, and I know that obviously I’ll have to pay a fine. What are the chances of losing my license, has anyone got a similar ticket? How do I go to traffic school? How many points is 100+MPH speeding ticket? What’s the ticket fine for 100+MPH?
This was at 2AM by the way. The cop said "do you know how many people are out with their kids, and how many lives you endangered?" I just nodded thinking to myself "0."
I didn’t argue with the cop, is that what verbal means?
